DUBSTEP TANGO IS COMING!

tango

Dubstep Monday @ Generation Bass.

I’m a huge Tango fan.  From the time I first heard Astor Piazzolla I fell in love with this timeless genre.

Then in or about 2002/2003 I heard Gotan Project and BajoFondo Tango Club which brought the Tango genre bang up to date with an electro-tango variant.

In 2007 & 2008, I compiled 3 Tango compilations for commercial release still available worldwide called “Beginner’s Guide to Tango Lounge”, “BGT Tango- 2008 Edition” and “Bar Tango”.

On these compilations I introduced the world for the first time to a whole host of new and underground electro-tango artists from Buenos Aires and other places around the world.

I made lots of new friends, especially in Argentina and of course that’s how I also met Juan Data as he was involved in co-managing Koxmoz who worked with Gotan Project on one track.

So I’ve been waiting around for a grittier, darker and more underground Tango dance genre to develop. There’s already been Electro Dub Tango tracks by the likes of the Gotan Project and Jimena Fama but no Tango Dubstep.

Then the Zombie Disco Squad hinted at the re-emergence of a new Tango Dance genre with their exceptional track, “Eurovision”.  But that was not Dubstep.

Now, however, Tango Dubstep seems to be, being born.  Here’s a couple of tracks that I’ve found that I really rate and want to hear more of the same.

The first one by Hybu in 2005 claims to be the first ever Tango / Grime & Bass Music Mash-up !

You can download this one:

Hybu – Step To Tango (2005) by hybu

However, I think this next one by Subsector takes it to the next level and this really is DUBSTEP TANGO but he tells me it’s not the FINISHED version but a DEMO.  You can stream it:

Subsector – The Tango! by NTNY

I’ll leave you with an Electro-Tango DJ mix that I did some time ago, which was previously posted on here by Vince.  It really represents the electro-tango scene up to the 2008 point but does not contain any dubstep tango.

My first tango dubstep intent is now far away, it’s sad because i can’t find it anymore… it was done in like 2004-2005 with a bandoneon sample find somehere in my father tango collection… Done after having heard Symbad from Horsepower Productions, i thought there was a real DUB feeling in the breathe of the bandoneon and than no one had tried yet to mix tango and electronic music (in my known) except perhaps Gotan Project that i always thought they was too clich√©…

Then i heard grime riddims (mainly Dexplicit, Imp Batch ones) and thought it could be interesting to mix agressive chopped beats with this dub breathing… >> step to tango… Funny you are talking about it 4 years after i did it… i still like it and always feel it’s potential… I’m really happy some people finally saw it !

    Thanks

Etienne, also known as Hybu 😉
