It’s a great honour and pleasure for me to do this post for a fantastic underground artist named MADURO.
This guy alongside Beats Antique and some others is hero-worshipped mainly by the Western school of Bellydance. Whereas Hossam Ramzy is the current reigning King of traditional/Tribal Middle Eastern Bellydance.
Below, you can grab a few very tasty tracks comprised of some BELLYSTEP and also Gothic/Industrial Bellydance which have been released on his own label OCTOFOIL RECORDS.
Here’s some more info on the dude:
Hailing from the Washington DC area, the artist who calls himself Maduro blends textured dark world fusion electronic music with breakbeat and breakcore elements.
His work has been popularized by renowned belly dancers performing and teaching to his work around the world. He has appeared on compilations with the likes of Amon Tobin, Bassnectar, Muslimgauze, Venetian Snares, Beirut, and Nouvelle Vague.
Talking about Maduro’s music, Bob Duskis, owner of the renowned San Francisco-based Six Degrees Records stated, “If you ever wondered what Trent Reznor might sound like if he incorporated global sounds into his musical palette, you may want to delve deeper into Maduro’s repertoire.”
Maduro’s 2008 album Siege has been regarded as a breakthrough production mixing live world instrumentation with breakcore progressions, bit reduction, and musique concrète. His follow on 2008 EP “Fin de Siecle” (or “End of the Century” in French) was recorded primarily with tracker programs using Thomas Edison phonograph cylinder samples from the early 1900s.
The 2009 release “Your Devices” with Boston-based Notecrusher appeared on BBC with its world dubstep tones and his forthcoming 2010 full-length release “Reveries” has been much anticipated. His sound embodies ethnic instrumentation with deconstruction and things carnivalesque.
As part of the Shisha sound System, a few years ago we stuck a couple of his tracks on one of our compilations, Beginners Guide To Bellydance and this is one of the tracks we used, just watch this amazing Gothic Bellydance routine:
You can also listen to or download a little taster mix I did for the comp:
After dropping a real jewel with his Konteh Kunda!!!the amazing Jali Bakary and the people form AKWAABA are doing a REMIX CONTEST!!!
This is a massive call for all the people who are into mixing new things!!
And in case u missed our african post here are few words about Jali…
Jali Bakary Konteh is a kora player and singer from Brikama, Gambia. He comes from a griot family, which includes some of the world’s most renowned kora musicians. His father is Dembo Konteh, who has toured the world with his kora, and his Grandfather is Alhaji Bai Konteh, the first griot to popularize kora music in America with his album “Kora Melodies from the Gambia,” on Rounder records.
Jali Bakary has not only inherited the talents of his bloodline, but has also incorporated his own style and twist into the music, as the tracks here will show. He has played with many of the Gambia’s finest talent, including Pa Boba and Sanku Jobarteh, as well as with his father on National televesion numerous times. ZZK Records is pleased to announce the digital releases of two EPs that push the ZZK Sound into new sonic territories.
1st up is Fauna‘s EP La Manita de Fauna with 4 exclusive instrumentals and 2 remixes by heavyweights and ZZK famPoirier &Douster. Turntable Lab had this to say about La Manita de Fauna EP:
“Fauna is a crew of producers and MCs hailing from Mendoza, Argentina. At the forefront of the digital cumbia scene, Fauna describe their style as “Cumbia from the Jungle” and is characterized by the heavy bass sounds you’d normally associate with Baile Funk or even fidget house.
This EP opens with a remix by the ever-versatile Ghislain Porier(1). His remix of “Gauchito Gil” is an immediate banger, low bpms never sounded so fierce. Flip to the b-side for three instrumental originals(2,3,4) and you really get a sense of how original this music really is (Sounds like if you dropped a shipment of 90s era drum machines and synths in a gypsy colony and came back 10 years later to hear the results). Also includes a remix by Douster(5).”
Lagartijeando pushes the label into new territories, using Cumbia as a starting point but meshing more roots and obscure sounds with South American rhythms like chacareras, huaynos, and vidalas, mixed with heavy bass and “hyper-active synth melodies” (SF Weekly)
Boomkat said of Neobailongo:
Heavyweight plate of Nueva Cumbia Argentina and mutant Reggaeton styles from Lagartijeando on the awesome ZZK label. If you haven’t checked this label yet you really need to pay them some close attention. Their drops from Chancha Via Circuito, Fauna and Poirier are among some of the wildest dancefloor fusions we’ve heard in years and these six tracks from Lagartijeando commendably uphold that tradition.
The low-flying club missile ‘Neobailongo En El Club Sarmiento’ skims battys with darkside rave synths and tumbling carnival percussion at 100bpm, while the pacy ‘Zindud’ jacks mad accordians over ghetto-house beats ‘n bass and his remix of Doña Maria’s ‘El Pescador’ tears it up in extreme slo-motion. Anyone with a taste for raw, modern pan-global ghetto musics should be on this immediately!
Anyone up in here into 90’s R&B and New Jack Swing? Well… for the 3 people that are still reading, here’s a nice jam that I really like and had to be taken for a ride abaord the cumbia train.. The man of the hour, or rather minute, was MONTELL, here’s the SDP refixx…
COTTONMOUTH has been producing music for many moons and has only recently started writing music again after a six year break.

ONE OF MY FAVOURITE BANDS IN THE WORLD RIGHT NOWW!
Lucky to be amongst only a handful of dj’s in the world to have this track amongst Liquid Stranger, Excision and of course Bandish. Made it’s first ever UK debut last Saturday night and of course it KILLED IT!!!
I’ve been xcited about the release of the original version of this track for quite a while now. I’m a trusted insider in the Bandish camp and their Chief Adviser and so I’ve been privy to it for at least 6 months.
I have found it VERY HARD to contain my xcitement about it.
IMHO, this track is gonna catapult Bandish onto the world stage with great aplomb..just watch and see and mark my words!
More TRANSNATIONAL DUBSTEP, a sub-genre now officially recognised by Wikipedia and Mad Decent!
This is Transnational Dubstep with Indian flava’s.
This dude, we have previously covered and now he’s back with some great new tracks for download available only for 7 days 🙂
Xcellent refix by my homie who also supported Datsik in Brum recently with his superb “Brothethood of Filth” group who made their worldwide debut that night!
Brotherhood of Filth consist of DJ Switch (DMC World Champ), The Doctor (Pure975) and our homie. They are a live dubstep turntablist act. Using 4 decks 3 mixers 3 laptops and midi keyboard controllers to manipulate dubstep in it’s hardest form.
Really feel what this dude does. We’ve covered him previously and I even stuck one of his tracks on Popstep II.
Different and unique, very unique and I love that…dark and mooody..and I love that…..very good production and sound…and I love that…..and totally unassuming and humble….and I love that too…what is there not to love about BASSADOR.…love him too!
Like FLeCK, his music requires your patience and if you give it that patience, you will be GREATLY REWARDED….it has hidden secrets and hidden depths..please dive deep into it!
It’s monday, let’s kick of the week kinda relaxed with a nice one to ryde to! I have to keep bumping this man. One of my fav TRIBE cuts and since I was working on their entire first album, I thought it’d be easiest to just throw this one out there as well! After Hours, here we go:
