Welcome to the Twilight Zone, Welcome to Sexxy Saturday Cumbia….Where nothing is what it seems!
Absolutely loving this FREE EP released by Cabeza Net label.
It includes remixes and mash ups by Villa Diamante and Fauna
Both me and my bro’ Doma Tornados lost our other mother this year and it was a very sad ocassion with the passing of the Queen of South American Folkloric music, MERCEDES SOSA.
We streamed the main track of this EP last year but I’m so happy that Doma has decided to give it away for free now on his Toba Rey EP.
Man the production on the EP is HOTTTT!
The second track and third tracks are instrumental and vocal versions of the same track with the same Mercedes sample but alternative versions and sound more like Sonic Youth than they do South American folklore.
I love this and perhaps it’s something that the Indie kids might just pick up on..you never know!!!
When Doma sent this to me he said:
Play it loud. I’ve been studying the “wall of sound” techniques and adapting it to the digital world. Play LOUD, VERY LOUD! Southamerican DNA+British Wall of Sound+German techno trickeries: TOBA REY
The only thing I initially disagreed with there was the claim that it was the British Wall of Sound. I thought “Wall of Sound” was invented by one of my fave American producers Phil Spector.
But maybe he isn’t wrong:
Indeed, Chris Thomas‘ production for The Sex Pistols‘ “Anarchy in the U.K.” is probably the premier example of the mono “Wall of Sound” recording technique in punk — with over twenty carefully orchestrated, feedback-laden guitar overdubs used in the making of the record. Sandy Pearlman‘s epic production for “Tommy Gun” by The Clash also builds to an intense, dramatic “Wall of Sound” finale featuring several loud, distorted guitar overdubs and martial sound effects set against a rousing snare-drum march.
So I think we’re both right 😉
It’s a GREAT EP and one that I’m very excited by cause without you noticing it until you think about it, it’s actually doing something pretty innovative…..making Mercedes Sosa sound like Patty Smith and whoever would have thought that would be possible!

FATBOY SLIM CUMBIANIZED
Need I say anything!
Our friend, Dj Pinchado sent us this refix of a Juaneco track.
If you recall we covered Juaneco back HERE
Gorgeous track here by Colombian Pernett, just love it!
Our famous Colombian Actor returns and you know this dude is fast becoming one of my favourite Cumbia guys.
I’m TOTALLY feeling what this dude is doing and he’s putting his own flexxx on it which is what I like.
I mean just LISTEN TO THIS BEAUTY transporting me back to Colombia 1950’s!!!!
Tiene samples de Oro11 y de Los Mirlos… y de Lady Gaga. Lady Gaga es peor que el Crack, no puedo sacar la canción de mi mente.. voy por la calle y la tarareo.
En fin… Enjoy!
MAJOR LAZER FUKUMBIANIZED
Must admit never really liked the original of this track which appeared on the Major Lazer album.
Thought the words were NOT sexxy, not even in a durrty poronographic way. A little crude and unnecesary and even slightly disturbing man and that’s saying something for somebody like me.
I’m sure if you spoke to woman like that, she’d FUK U UP bwoy and you’re the one who’d be screaming all night!!!..lol..
ROD STEWART HAIRSTYLIZED
WTF is Rod Stewart doing on here….lmao..
Not the first time this track has been cumbianized, an earlier, more innovative one of LEGENDARY status exists.
Anybody for some DISCO CUMBIA?
Another one for that Aunty’s Disco I keep on mentioning, F*&^, how many Aunty’s Disco’s have I done!
