SON OF KICK : REVOLUTION ABC EP!

Print

Here’s dude we really rate and we’re not the only ones, his other fans include Bassnectar and Stereotyp.

This is his new EP and here’s what’s being said about it:

Revolution A,B,C is first up and representing the production talents and style of Way Way Records label head, Son Of Kick.  Originally one mighty track, it was broken into three even greater ones.  Mark from Stanton Warriors and Simbad the French DJ/producer both said to S.O.K. that the original had three distinctive parts that could be made into separate tracks; it was just TOO BIG on it’s own!  “When dudes like this tell you something related to music, you kinda listen” said S.O.K.

This musical triptych that bounces heavy dub and electro alongside soulful hip hop has already gained support from DJs Benji B, Simbad, Leonard de Leonard, Stern, Lefto and Jay Scarlett; pulling it regularly from their DJ sacks.  This hybrid beat delivery has already got both the European and US producers on their toes and vocalists and labels craving the S.O.K. stamp for something.

To complete the package Way Way Records looked to a couple of young guns to add their production talents.  First up is jungle/dubstep producer Mr Madjestik (Manchester’s, UK).  S.O.K. had been smashing up dancefloors with Mr Madjestik’s heavy beats and bootlegs, so naturally looked to him as the man to create damage with Revolution C.   Revolution C is also remixed by the two times World scratch champion DJ Troubl; need we say much more.

As well as producing material for the dance floor, DJ, and multi instrumentalist, Son Of Kick is gaining a reputation from Berlin to Brooklyn for his bumping, super charged set, which is a bass-feast of heavy electro and dubstep. Not liking to be pigeon holed S.O.K. will drop acapellas from Method Man or rock to the Violent Femmes alongside his own productions.

Producer, DJ, and multi instrumentalist Son Of Kick is making waves with his bumping, super-charged live set.  A bass-feast packed full of electro, Dubstep, heavy grooves and the insanely unpredictable.  Catch him dropping acapella’s from Method Man or rocking snippets from the Violent Femmes alongside his own productions.  On a playing field of his own right now, it was friend and vocalist RQM that recently coined his new style, ‘Psychostep’.

Based in London, Son Of Kick’s sound has already been picked-up by various labels including recording tracks for the Stanton Warrior’s imprint, Beats and pioneering London imprint Botchit & Scarper.  Recent remix credits include work for labels such as Man Recordings (Germany), ESL Music (Washington DC), Civil Music (UK), and Om Records (San Francisco).

In between rehearsals for his live acoustic shows with model Alice Gobet as duo Allovers, SOK has been co-producing alongside the French DJ/producer Simbad for the new Grems & Disiz La Peste (Rouge A Levre) album. When not shooting videos for the label or making music for TV and film documentaries he’s working hard on new material for forthcoming shows; including this summer’s Gilles Peterson Worldwide Festival, the O2 Wireless After Party and Yoyo at Notting Hill Arts Club.

The artwork on the release has been executed by inspirational painter/creative/rapper/talent Miki Grems (www.grems.eu); with the video produced and directed by another S.O.K pal Neopen. A seriously sh*t-hot piece of filmatic action, loaded with the same level of suspense and tension as the music.

The second release on Way Way Records is “PLAYING THE VILLAN” and due SEPT/OCT with a single licenced to Berlin glitch hop label Equinox Records due in October.

Been caning Revolution C since a while now, glad da whole package is coming out.

Next level production from Son Of Kick, shhhh gonna make some nooooooise i reckon…

Full support on my side. (SIMBAD)

the funny thing about the three versions I got is that each version fits perfect a certain time of the day… A) would be good for the morning…. B) at night, late evening, perfect laid-back vibe and C) for crazy going nuts parties. I like it… (LEFTO)

Son of kick is one of my favourite 2010 artists to watch out for, everything he seem to touch has that bass construction swipe that has all the heads on the dancefloor, acting like meercats on heat from the more glitched up dubstep tracks to the more full on uptempo dancefloor stompers mans got the touch. (JAY SCARLETT)

File Under ‘unexpected pleasure’. (Clash Magazine, UK)

One of the most exciting and inventive producers I’ve heard this year – a fantastic blend of style and energy. (Bassnectar – Om Records/Amorphous/Child’s Play – San Francisco)

Retarded! One of the nastiest tunes I’ve ever heard from you… fuckin nuke! (Stereotyp – Crunchtime/G Stone, Vienna/New York)

Bass heavy freshness from Son Of Kick.  Definitely a producer to watch for in 2010. (Mark, Stanton Warriors – Punk/Beats, London)
