Careful with those Jamaica tunes – they can be deceptively nice-sounding, but if you look at the lyrics and try to decipher the Jamaican patois, you realize that they’re violently homophobic. For example, “Limb by Limb” is about dismembering homosexuals.

“Limb by limb we are gon cut dem down, send fi the hacksaw, take out de tongue”

Ugh…just listening to this song sends shivers down my spine.

sorry mate but i cant agree with you. ive just read whole lyrics several times and there is not even a word about battyboys. i agree that this tune is violent and hateful, and i know that those lyrics are rather stupid but its not about gays. its about his opponents, rivals and people who want to dis him.
i never play homophobic tunes but i dont think this song is one.

    An updated comment from me
There is the line about “if a boy try a ting me shoot out him eyesight”… which is questionable on this topic. But the chorus… yeah, agreed… could just as well be about rivals.
I found this quote when I searched for Cutty Ranks view on homosexuals:
“an’ personally me nah no time fi talk ’bout no gay. everyday ’bout gay, battyman, chi chi man. i don’t have no time fe talk about dat shit! dere is so many other tings dere to talk about weh fe uplif’ yuh people. what is even more important more dan talkin’ about gays an’ lesbian an’ battyman.”

Which is a fay cry from the most notorious gay bash tune from Beenie Man ‘Batty Man Fi Dead (Queers Must Be killed)’
“All faggots must be killed! If you f*ck ass, then you get copper and lead [bullets].”

Dope! Rastafari is not far from many radical religions, depending the person’s personal point of view; we can have Bob marley’s love to everyone, or Cutty Ranks’ dissing bout battyman..
They based part of their belief in the pentateuch books (shared by jews, christians and rastafaris..among others)
    Ganja:
Genesis 3:18, which commands, “Thou shalt eat the herb of the field.”
    Dreads:
Leviticus 21:5 (“They shall not make baldness upon their head, neither shall they shave off the corner of their beard, nor make any cuttings in the flesh.”) and Numbers 6:5 (“All the days of the vow of his separation there shall no razor come upon his head: until the days be fulfilled, in the which he separated himself unto the Lord, he shall be holy, and shall let the locks of the hair of his head grow.”).
    and
Leviticus 18:22: “Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination” — which can be taken quite literal or just symbolic..
Now we’ll need to go further to see if cutty ranks is a bobo shanti to find if he meant it literally or not

Stephen: Did you ask Cutty? Did you listen to the lyrics? Sure, it’s a very macho/violent tune; “Nuff a dem a pose off / Like-a dem run de world / Let me tell you something / Fi mi gun / it a mi girl / (…) / Me gun mi hug up and kiss / Sleep with at night / If a boy try a ting / Me shoot out him eyesight”. Why assume this is about homosexuals instead of just him killing poser gangstas with his beloved gun? Because it’s a hard dancehall tune?
