Introducing Future Beatsmiths: Groundislava

One of the best things about new electronic music is the way the beats are given a whole new dimension when played alongside decent visuals. There are some truly amazing visual shows around at the moment, most notably from big hitters like Nosaj Thing and Debruit, that are setting the standard  for live performance. This week we’re looking at an artist that’s continuing this trend with a little help from his old man.

GROUNDISLAVA

Remember that crazy 80s video for ‘Take On Me’ by A-ha? Well, LA based Groundislava happens to be the son of the guy that put it together and the crafty devil has got his Dad to help him out on his new vid. The visuals in this are incredible and the song isn’t too bad either; with stuttering overlapped beats and atmospheric field recordings in the background:

Groundislava has been producing forward thinking, glitchy 8bit sounds for a while now and you can pick up a free EP he released a few months back here. And, as if that wasn’t enough, here’s a remix of a track from the latest EP as well as this quality remix from Young Montana, an artist that we’re definitely keeping an eye on just now:
