Generation Bass prides itself in being one of the strongholds of the Moombahton movement. Developing and giving way to young producers to take the genre into new directions from Goombaton & Gabbahton to Moombahsoul and everything in-between. The next chapter in this continuing story is “Balkaton” and the awesome BANG! BANG! EP by that great band with the unpronounceable name Shazalakazoo!

Shazalakazoo is a band from Belgrade (Serbia) formed by Milan Djuric (usb-clarinet, plastic knobs, faders, rubber pads, silicon chips, singing and shouting) and Uros Petkovic (electric violin, turntablism and silicon chips). The band plays danceable electronic bass music spiced with the sounds originating mostly from their own region – the Balkans. Their interpretation of Balkan melodies, harmonies and rhythm patterns are often intertwined with the influences that come mostly from Latin America and Sub-Saharan Africa, creating the unique musical blend which they call the Folkstep. These guys are on the forefront of the dance floor and have shifted slowly into Moombahton territory, blending their trusted organic sound with the hard hitting slow beats of the moombah movement!

The BANG! BANG! EP is a hard hitting “Balkaton” monster with 4 original tracks and two amazing remixes, one by Generation Bass regular SaBBo and one by Bert on Beats from Estonia, giving you a total of 6 heavy Global Bass bangers to burn up the floors across the world.

“Bang!” and “Danca Do Facao” set the mood with some great drum programming and dirty synths, referring to the origins of Moombahton, the slowed down dirty Dutch House. “Neki Stranac” is not only a highly prolific Moombahton producer in his own right (he is half of Shazalakazoo), his moniker has now been turned into one hell of a monstrous Moombahton track. Clipping synths and organic percussion form the base of what is surely a classic Moombah joint in the making! The following track “Rojo Rubi” blends Andalusian flamenco influences with an almost cumbia feel, brought together by the hard hitting beats of Moombahton.

This is the next level of global music. Forget everything you think you know about global music and blast out these tracks, this will relate to crowds worldwide!

As a added bonus (as if you need one!), our boy SaBBo turns “Danca Do Facao” into a scorching dance floor monster, complete with hard hitting synth blurbs and steady banging Moombah riddims and amazing Estonian producer Bert On Beats steps up the game by speeding “BANG” up to almost KUDURO speed, making it a true late night party monster!

Don’t sleep on this release and support the global Moombahton movement!

CULPRATE – Soundcloud/Bio:
http://soundcloud.com/culprate
“Culprate’s musical intuition started at the age of just 13, when he decided to learn the guitar. By the age of 15, Culprate’s passion and creativity really came into bloom as he was introduced to electronic music production at college. From then on it was just a matter of time before his driven persona and growing production skills resulted in fantastic dub step anthems, tearing their way through clubs around the world.

Having established several releases already on respected dubstep record labels like ‘Dubsaw,’ Culprate has already marked his territory in the dubstep scene. However, he is far from content, admitting recently he would love to get his hands on some hardware to take his production to the next level. And with influences ranging from Squarepusher to Amon Tobin, only Culprate could tell you what sort of production the future holds. But from what we’ve seen already, we know it’ll be good.”

Generation Bass Presents Moombahluv Volume II

[GFX by Dj Sheppa]

Okay, welcome back to the Church of MoombahLuV, Part II is upon us now.

I had as much pleasure, this time, as I did the first time around, in putting this second volume together.  This concept really has taken a life of its own and I think people will probably appreciate it much more with the passing of time, well I hope so.  I think it can stand the test of time and remain as relevant 3 years from now.

Moombahluv is not really a sub-genre BUT it can be if you so will it to be.  It’s for that rainy windswept day when you’ve been blown out or are feeling down or just need some luv & a hug.  This compilation is a hug from me to you 🙂 It’s for loners, just like me, who dream fantastic dreams and feel that anything is possible but always with a sense of vulnerability and humility.

Here’s a teaser mix to provide you with an insight into what it is all about:

Generation Bass Presents MoombahLuV VoL II – Excerpts Promo Mix – DJ UMB by djumb

Thank YOU for listening once again and thanks to all the artists who contributed these amazing tracks, Neil Queen-Jones for the Foreword, DJ Sheppa for the awesome artwork and also to my dude, my brother,Vincent Koreman, for putting up with my huge EGO and my bitch fits ahahhaa..

DJ UMB <3

Enough bs from me and now onto some real words from a man who has a natural way with them.

Foreword by Neil Queen-Jones

Dance music as we know it has always needed to prove itself. After the acid house boom the taunt was that it couldn’t sell albums – Orbital and The KLF soon shot that notion down. Every single genre since then has had to stare down dissenters, so the onus would always be on Moombahton to prove that it amounts to more than an airhorn and a dem bow rhythm. But this scene is about defying convention at every turn, so it comes as no surprise it’s already actioned its own evolution, and Generation Bass, always at the sharp end of this new tropical explosion, set down a marker for progression and a sign of Moombahton coming of age with Moombahluv Vol.1, which amended the template, setting a new path for a more mature sound, one that wasn’t reliant on bangers, one that stood up to scrutiny.

Volume 2 was a given, and Gen Bass has ensured there’s been no compromise or drop-off in quality. A compilation that soundtracks and shapes this exciting scene, it represents the true scope of the creative minds at work, ranging from Heartbreak’s glacial soul stylings through to Big Makk’s core-tinged expansion of the sweeping melodics of Lykke Li, this captures the mood of a movement. With artists like Riot Earp, Ben Tactic, Stlkrfxxx, Jamrock and others involved, Moombahluv Vol.2 creates a startling vision of where this thing may find itself in the coming month and years to come.

[GFX by Dj Sheppa]

Dj Sheppa has been holding down one of Kansas City’s longest running Moombahton parties called BODY2BODY & also has a midweek party called MIDWEEK MOOMBAH. In other words as he puts it, “I’m a moombahfreak & I like to help out the scene with what I can.” With designs for Heartbreak’s Moombahsoul comp. Vol 2 & 3, plus one for LeDoom, and now this…he is definitely on track to put his visual stamp on the genre. Much love or should we say Moombahluv!

Sarah Young Scene Selection

Sarah Young is young, pretty, ballsy and AMBITIOUS!

She’s holding her own in this testosterone driven, male dominated Global Bass Scene and she’s not doing a bad job of it.  She’s pushing and tearing her way through the barriers and gaining some well deserved recognition for herself within the scene and that you just have to admire and support.

She is now doing a 5 part series for Mixmag entitled  ”CHAPTER ONE” – Trailer below!

Sexxy Saturday Cumbia – Sexxy Halloween Edition

Can you feel the chill in the air? Can you feel the fear shared by all those around you? Does it feel like impending doom and damnation is near? Then you’re probably at one of the “occupy” protests. If you’re not then you’re probably right smack in the middle of the inescapable Halloween festivities (WAY better then Christmas)! Getting the costume ready for the office party, house party or one of the million events we all have in our bloated FaceBook notification inboxes? Whatever it is you’re going to do remember this is the best season by far! I love it and always have since childhood. The debauchery and the humor give me hope for our human race. Making light of fear and mortality (the two things that haunt us throughout the year) is honest and therapeutic.

With just a few more days left before we start the Christmas advertising onslaught let’s take this moment in the year to really truly have a great time. And for all of you who are performing over the weekend GIVE THEM HELL!

I’ve been collecting carefully for this post for the past few weeks. A lot of you stepped up and shared some spooky and fun tracks. However without further ado I share my Halloween themed findings!

Lost Chicos Altos shared their THE SCREAM earlier this month and made a special cumbia-step version just for us. It’s dark, it’s evil, it’s awesome and it’s a wonderful tribute to the Hitchcock classic Psycho.

[soundcloud url=”http://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/25553644″]

http://soundcloud.com/los-chicos-altos/the-scream-cumbiastep-mix

Keeping with the psycho theme perfectly El Gran Pirujo produced an edit of PSYCHO KILLER by one of my all time favorite bands and influences THE TALKING HEADS. My favorite part is the outro.

I was a HUGE HALLOWEEN movie junkie back in the day. I love John Carpenter’s movies. I grew up watching his stuff. With respect to PYSCHO, he tuly revolutionized the slasher horror genre. Michael Myers (not Mike) was the prototype that many villains later followed. I’m grateful that 805 tackled the HALLOWEEN theme because I was hoping someone would. All the other renditions were not appropriate for this blog post but 805’s definitely is.

Going now towards the supernatural and who better to start with than witches? Who better to start with than Los Macuanos? The answer is obvious. That’s why I start the witch trials with Los Macuanos’s brilliant work simply and accurately titled WITCH.

[soundcloud url=”http://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/22126055″]

After that eerie piece the best to feature next is the witch that has become a legend and a cult classic. The Blair Witch! I remember honestly no matter what people say now, how much this movie messed people up. It terrified us and messed with our heads. I know there are many liars today claiming to have not been bothered by the movie but I know the truth. I remember well. The great Pa Kongal presented his homage to the movie. If you haven’t heard it yet it’ll definitely be downloaded by you soon after you listen to it.

Cybernetiko captured the voice of the antichrist (no not my voice) and shared it over a cumbia beat with plenty of electronic accompaniment. Be careful not to believe this otherwise you’ll be viewed as a conspiracy nut-case (which is okay if that’s what you’re into I guess).

Christopher Lee was my favorite Dracula. With no disrespect to the great Bela Lugosi but Christopher had more fun with the character and his movies involved darker themes and more gore. Spike Devil Disco produced a fuzzy dark contribution to the ethos of the most famous vampire. I love what Spike is doing these days. He’s entering new worlds and because of that he’s bringing us fresh material.

Dagon was a Philistine god or rather demigod that appears a few times in the Old Testament. It was written that in the Tower of Babel he had a shrine for his priests and worshipers. His temple was the one that Sampson destroyed. The priest’s head-dress strongly resembles the pope’s and bishops of today. H.P. Lovecraft wrote about his a few times like in his classic story The Shadow Over Innsmouth. Also a few movies have been made. He was a fish god living deep beneath the sea with a secret order of worshipers living upon the land. This is my homage to the exciting mythos of Dagon.

Let us not forget the world’s overwhelming cinematic favorite creature of horror, the zombie. I was just thinking yesterday that there are too damn many zombie movies. I know I watched way too many too. The reason is I love them too much. I’ve had hundreds of zombie nightmares due to the countless times I’ve watched zombie movies. I’ve even made short zombie films when I was younger. I love and respect George Romero just as much as the next guy and of course Dario Argento too. But that all being said I wouldn’t mind to see less zombie movies made in the future just so we can keep the good legendary ones more special and respected. Zombie music however is a different story. Bring on more! Spike Devil Disco delivers again!

Nrmal released a new mix earlier this week featuring the spooky skills of Los Macuanos. It turned out to be a great idea. There aren’t enough Los Macuanos mixes out there for me to be satisfied. What better way to celebrate the Halloween season than to do so with HAUNTED SOUNDS! POR LOS MACUANOS?!

Another great mix from one of my favorite mix masters comes from the mind of Will Eede. One of the three WEPA group’s leaders, Will delivers the ambient side of cumbia. Strong with melancholia, ambience and melody this mix is perfect for the season. Can you hear the CLOSE ENCOUNTERS theme in the beginning?

Will’s mix brings out the ghostly theme in this blog. To continue with the cosmic ghostly feeling CUMBIA CON ACORDEON fits perfectly. Don’t let the name fool you into thinking it’s not dark because it truly is. Pa Kongal never ceases to satisfy my thirst for new sounds.

El Barba dub seems to love to go deep and I seem to love that about him. While not necessarily being spooky I still wanted to share his new work because not only is it great but it has that dark feeling I was looking for.

Halloween is about having fun with the things about life that scares us. At least that’s what Halloween has become (that and slutty costumes). Disney enjoyed the magic of the season, making it a perfect time to entertain children and the childlike feeling we adults possess. The Haunted Mansion always was my favorite attraction mostly due to the nostalgia involved. For some reason it always brings back a certain feeling inside me I can’t quite describe. So I made an homage to the classic attraction that celebrates ghosts, zombies and haunted mansions.

One track nearly escaped me but fortunately I received it just in time with Halloween still upon a lot of us. This blog post wouldn’t be complete without it. Turbo Sonidero Futuritico blows it up with a cumbia homage to the television show that gave me more nightmares than any other when I was a child. Tales of the Darkside or rather Dark Side de Tumbia!

Thank you to all that contacted me with your Halloween music. I really do appreciate it very much and loved this whole process. We have a lot of cool tracks here for the Halloween season.

During my focus on this blog post I collected a lot of great tracks that I couldn’t post this week due to the nature of this specific post. However next week I have a lot of brilliant tracks to share.  Next week is going to be massive!

Have a fun and safe Halloween. Don’t forget to enjoy yourself and laugh at your fears because they’re gonna come right back to you starting November 1st!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!

Pickster & Mixmag Magazine present:

The Rise of Moombahton “Today We Were Kings”

Tradition and family run deep in the Moombahton scene. The seasonal Moombahton compilations started by Munchi in the Summer of 2010 kicked off a tradition. As the seasons change a different Moombahtonista curates a compilation that takes a snap shot of the scene and the producers making noise at that time. David Heartbreak followed with the Fall Of Moombahton in 2010, DJ Melo with the Winter Of Moombahton in 2010, Lightning Eyez with the Spring Of Moombahton in 2011, and Munchi with Verano Del Moombahton in the summer of 2011. Pickster from Phoenix, Arizona has taken the baton and put together the Fall compilation for 2011.

The Rise Of Moombahton “Today We Were Kings”. Everybody is a king or queen for at least one day in their own world. Whether you’re on top of the game or just coming up and hitting that first milestone, were all kings or queens for a day. With that said, the comp showcases some OG Moombahtonistas that have been there from the beginning, as well as some young up and comers. Pickster, not feeling the name The Fall Of Moombahton, instead called the Fall compilation The Rise Of Moombahton, feeling it to be a better fit for this rising genre.

Chip Bass Monthly

BOOM… Massive month once again with tracks and releases from most of the ChipBass heavy hitters plus some newcomers and two great mixes. New Chipbass logo by KeFF [art+music] (background image from Pixel Troopers)

486

The main man 486 makes a return to these posts with a new release to raise funds for a bassmobile. The idea being converting a mobile library into a recording and production studio on wheels to educate and spread bass across the united states. The release covers a whole lot of genres but personally I think it is strongest at its skweee/skwømp moments (track 3 is a particular favourite). So support a good Bass related cause and buy this release.

Firedrill

This fellow from Seattle has written some of my favourite chipbass tracks over the years, so I am really looking forward to this new Tropical inspired release. You can preview two tracks below.. Tropical Skwømpin’ ..

skwonkattack by firedrill

skwompy by firedrill

Daddy Long Legs + Ethernet

From the Portland crew behind Battery Powered Music comes this Dub/Ambient chip release. Daddy Long Legs who is known for some great dubby chip songs joined forces with ambient artist Ethernet for a very Chill and relaxing release.

KODEK

Latvian mad man Kodek delivers again with this new free EP. Like a companion piece to last months Bleep Street release it delivers a few more incredibly well produced hard hitting instrumental ChipBangers. A Cheapshot remix tones it down with a slightly more dub styled vibe as a break from the insanity. As a free release this is a no brainer.. get it now!

ecos

I have debated with myself as to whether or not to cover more beats oriented “fakebit” in these posts and I think this release really turned my decision. Even though the artist may not position himself as a chip artist this has many chip influences that really grabbed my attention. I know very little about this artist except for the fact that he is apparently 16!

Elliot

While on the Beats tip this Australian artist has a few very solid Chip style tracks that are up on his Soundcloud. One is a remix by Russian Bleep king Pixelord that is from a forthcoming release on influential Sydney label “The Frequency Lab”. The second is a freebie that beautifully combines hiphop beats and wonky bleeps.

Play with power by Elliot .

Elliot ‘Who 8 my bits” (pixelord remix) by Elliot .

little-scale

Adelaide based artist and inventor little-scale posted this amazing experiment showing what the Sega Mega Drive is capable of in terms of nasty growling bass. Can’t wait for other people to get there hands on this tool and churn out some tracks!
Download the track here

Shellshock

I haven’t been posting a lot of these because since last year there has been a lot of very average Chipstep. This one to me stood out containing all round good sound design and a great vibe to the whole thing.. Hopefully will see this artist progress even further.

Moons (chipstep) by SHELLSHOCK8bit

Cheapshot
Submerse – Tokyopop! (Cheapshot Chipmix) by No District >

This track is absolutely incredible!! A remix of a nice little future-garage tune from Submerse released on No District. Cheapshot pulls in delivering his signature sound but raising the bar to a track that wouldn’t be out of place alongside any other club style release. I cannot actually find it for download anymore but was on Boomkat and Juno about a month ago?!?

Jahtari Mix

Finally here is a Mix of great Chip Dub tunes from legendary label Jahtari.. such a great flow to this mix Digital Reggae for the video game generation.

Chip Ba$$ Mixtape

This is a mix I put together a few months ago containing a whole bunch of classic and essential ChipBass tracks.. Think of it as your introduction to all the facets of ChipBass, from heavy chipstep to laid-back dub and everything in-between.

Generation Bass Presents Moombah Volume III : Balkaton

This EP is by Shazalakazoo and it’s called “Bang! Bang!”.

Being Released on Monday 31st October!!!

Shazalakazoo – Bang! Bang! EP Teaser (Mixed by Neki Stranac) – Out on 31st October by djumb

Tracks:

01. Bang!

04. Rojo Rubi (feat. MishMish)
