Edu K is a producer, singer, song writer, DJ and musical icon in the brazilian pop scene since the early 80’s, when his rock band, Defalla, revolutionized rock infusing different rhythms and styles such as samba, hip-hop, electro, funk and post-punk, mashing-up genres in the good old “Tropicalista” way, masterminded by bonafide MPB gods like Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil and Os Mutantes.
The sui-generis musician kick started his international carreer with the single “Popozuda Rock N’ Roll” released on DJ Daniel Haaksman’s label, Man Recordings in 2005, mixing the Rio de Janeiro favela’s Baile Funk with AC-DC style rock guitars.
Many tours all over Europe, Australia and USA followed the release of many EPs and remixes for various top names such as Larry Tee, Perez Hilton, Gotan Project, Don Omar, Azealia Banks and Benny Benassi on various certified club music labels – including Man Recordings, Dirtybird, Anabatic, PetFood, Discobelle, Ultra, Exploited, Wearhouse Music and Rizardo Records – and “Popozuda Rock N’ Roll” ,as well as many other tracks from his first album, “Frenétiko”, also released by Man Recordings, were used by huge brands such as Coca-Cola, Nike, Baccardi and Sony-Ericsson in international campaigns as well as in video-games, TV series and movies such as C.S.I. and Fast And Furious Five.
Now , after dabbling with a wide range of musical genres, Edu K is back to his latin/tropical roots, spinning lots of digital-cumbia, kuduro, tecno-brega (which is the new Brazilian craze, coming straight outta Belém do Pará), brasilian riddims such as Axé, Forró and MPB, and, of course, Baile Funk, the style the international DJ’s mostly known for. All of that with a club sound approach and twist, bringin’ together the traditional regionalism and the current musical trends in a unique way, with live P.A.s mixing DJing and MCing.
2013 finds Edu K releasing a new EP on Generation Bass, “Do The Brega”, bringing the new brasilian craze, Tecnobrega, to the world!
