Sterling compilation from the label that gave birth to Moombahton, T&A!
Heavyweight names on this, creators, innovators and those who helped to push the scene forward.
Generation Bass favourites Munchi, Heartbreak and Jay Fay are all represented and so that makes it pretty heavyweight in our eyes!
It’s free too and so really can’t get any better than that.
The only observation that I’d like to make is that a great opportunity was missed to maybe make this a Double release with the inclusion of “more” fresher names and sounds emanating from the New Wave also being showcased alongside the established ones.
Plus the PR says the compilation is a snapshot of Moombahton in 2013, well 2013 has just begun and so I wouldn’t agree it’s an accurate reflection of that but more so a snapshot of Moombahton between 2009 – 2012!
Then again, it’s up to T&A how they wish to represent progress of a genre that they gave birth to.
However, if you’re into Moombahton or a mere novice, you cant go wrong by grabbing this to bring you partially up to date with the scene and it’s evolution:
This compilation is a snapshot of Moombahton in 2013, nearly three years after Dave Nada slowed dutch house down to reggaeton tempo for a basement full of buckwild Latino kids in Baltimore. All the major players in the nascent genre come together with their A-game on Moombahton Forever, from originators Nadastrom, Sabo and Munchi to early adopters Heartbreak, Tittsworth, Ayres, Sazon Booya, Pickster and Melo to rave superstars Craze, GTA and Dillon Francis. All facets of the movement are represented: wild dutch synths (Deth, How Y’all Feel), huge buildups (Alerta, Dibby Dibby), reggaeton rhythms (Mami Whine It Up, La Brasilena), moombahcore (Gotta Know, Killa), deep vibes (Vibracion, Suenos), weird experimentalism (Savage Beauty, Club 219), and even a tempo tool from Moombahton to house (Eat It).
