Generation Bass Presents : The Best Of Sadat & Alaa Fifty Cent (Out Now) [Electro Chaabi]

sadat-alaa-fifty-500x500

The first official Electro Chaabi release outside of Egypt, we think so.

Generation Bass presents: The Best of Sadat and Alaa Fifty Cent

Just when you thought it was safe, Generation Bass drops another massive release on you. This is the first official release by Sadat and Alaa Fifty Cent, the founders and pioneers of mahraganat or Electro Chaabi as it is called in the west. This group was the very first to sing, record and upload wedding songs that later became known as “Mahraganat” or “Festival” songs. Kicking everything off with an ode to their city Al Salam, these three young dudes took their neighbourhood, their city, their country and then the internet by storm. This is the sound of a revolution, the sound of kids that don’t take it anymore and demand freedom, or at the very least, Five Pound Phone credit as one of their most famous songs will tell you!

Their sound is the crossover between rap and traditional, street music. The lyrics are inspired by the street culture with all its social problems and issues, and that’s a lot considering the state of Cairo right now. They gained a steady following by playing weddings, as most artists do in Egypt. It’s not a wedding like you’ve ever seen before though. It’s hours of relentless dancing and singing, starting slowly in the afternoon and going on all night. There’s no alcohol, its an all natural high, with people swinging fire bowls, climbing on roofs and walls, dancing like their life depends on it.

Although there are two names billed, Sadat and Alaa Fifty Cent, the third guy in the outfit might be the most important one. Producer Amr Haha effortless mixes traditional instruments and riffs with whatever he can lay his hands on. Auto-tuning the vocals into oblivion, his dense layers of sound are closer to the avant-garde then the street rap that has inspired him. More Wordsound than G Unit. This album is 14 cuts deep with equal footing between the all out brass dancing songs and the slower, easy going songs that focus more on the lyrics. These songs can be heard all over the troubled streets of Cairo right now, and we at Generation Bass are happy to now share them with the rest of the world as well!

Huge thanks to Joost of Incubate and also from The Cairo Liberation Front for making this release possible on Generation Bass.

Kameronessi : Knick Knacks & Nebulas EP out now!

cover 1440

What better wasy to kick start the new site than with this, the latest official release on the Generation Bass label by the highly underrated American producer, Kameronessi.

A beautiful and awesome EP that we loved so much that we needed for it to be part of our catalogue with the hope that we would be able to bring a lot more awareness to it.

The Dankles said, “Utilizing sounds that range from electric guitar to piano and beyond, Kameronessi paints a picture with every track he releases. Exploring new worlds and solidifying the fact that tracks can become “masterpieces” without turning the inside of a venue into a pigpen, the sounds of Kameronessi will invoke a deeper connection to music than most can transmit in a few minute time frame.”

The Get Downn mentioned, “Regardless of your listening space, Kameronessi has the power to transport you far far away, be it within our galaxy or another. The sound structure and overabundance of instrumentation are unlike anything we’ve experienced in quite some time, and the world-music-flow and tropical-feeling percussion bring to mind thoughts of greats like Govinda and The Orb.” – The Get Downn

“Knick Knacks and Nebulas”, the new EP Kameronessi cinematically highlights. This is clearly music that evokes images. With a good foundation in the folkloric, however the tracks of “Knick Knacks and Nebulas” are not from a defined source. As if it takes instrumental performance from around the world without having to handle a particular language. And that suggestion is deformed by different digital transformations routing parts to the more abstract IDM, and ambient touches of indietrónicos..” – Cassette Blog

Generation Bass Presents DJ Superstereo – Jing Jang EP Out Now [Zouk Bass]

artworks-000051771042-ohre9b-original

This superb free Zouk Bass EP from DJ Superstereo was only free for a limited time and now it is no more and so you must buy it!

DJ Superstereo aka Laskai Viktor is a producer from Hungary and he’s been immersed in a lot of Balkan vibes since we got to know about him a few years back. He is a versatile producer and can turn his hand to most genres and execute them with some precision and flair.

His foray into Zouk Bass came very early in March of 2013, around 1 month after the words “Zouk Bass” entered our stream of consciousness (after the now infamous Buraka Som Sistema Boiler Room Sessions in February 2013).

His first ZB track was one called “Zouk Brass” where he cleverly fused the ZB riddims with some Balkan spices.

A few weeks later he followed this up with one of the first and still best ZB edits in the scene thus far, this one below:

His third ZB track was this one:

So after 3 blindin’ ZB tracks, Superstereo had earned his stripes and was requested to put together an EP for us and this is what he has come up with, The Jing Jang EP.

2 shades of Zouk Bass, Dark & Sunny.

The Dark side of the Zouk is a track that soaks in deep, atmospheric and cinematic vibes. The flute is the main lead in this movie backed up with superb tribal percussion.

The Sunny side of the Zouk is the first ZB “Surf” track. Superstereo conjures up the theatrics of a Tarantino movie with the surf guitar and it is like a track you never heard before in this style.

This is a quality EP and althought it strays away from the traditions of Tarraxinha in some aspects, what it brings to the table can only be considered as healthy for the scene and showcases its diverse and adaptable nature.

BIO:

SuperStereo has started his musician career at age 10 with the love of rap music and with drumming in the outbuilding. The drumming is still big part of his life, he can play all the percussions, actually he is the drummer of the Péterfy Bori & Love Band in Hungary.

To start his dj career (in 2008) he was inspired by traditional folk and gypsy music and by the impression of the country life. His specialty that he combined this traditional sounding with the modern dance music -exspecially with house elements- creating by this an especial tone in the club- life.

Many foreign dj inquired about his works, inter alia: Dj Click, Shazalakazoo, Dj Gaetano Fabri, Dj Tagada etc. He made official remix for the Péterfy Bori and Love Band’s song: Téged nem, furthermore the request of Dj Tagada he made a remix for Khelpie E Cheasa by Boban and Marko Markovic. His remixes are essential components of the european balkan parties.

GENERATION BASS PRESENTS : TWO SEV x JSTJR – ZOUKOLOGY EP OUT NOW

Zoukology Front

Finally, this classic Zouk Bass EP is now officially out and for sale.

This brings Zouk Bass bang up to date with a more Americanized Club Fusion style brought to you by 2 young dudes who have surprised the hell out of me with this release. After hearing this I’m sure you’re going to agree that these 2 are gonna be a force to be reckoned with.

This EP really does set the pace for what Zouk Bass is transforming into with Big Room Zouk Bass Bangers perfectly moulded for those big festival stages and raves that are taking over America right now.

Here’s what these 2 dudes say about themselves:

“We’re Two Sev and JSTJR, a tropical bass duo based out of New England. We linked up less than a month ago focused on setting ourselves apart with our own style of Zouk Bass. We’re both percussionists and find inspiration in rhythms from around the world. Our first collaboration came so naturally that we decided to throw an EP together. The release of this EP marks the first of hopefully many more collaborations, and we hope you enjoy our new breed of Zouk Bass!”

Generation Bass presents: TWO SEV X JSTJR – ZOUKOLOGY EP

Ooooh we got some scorchers this week folks. The ZOUK BASS phenomenon is taking the world by storm and Generation Bass is riding that glorious first wave like the global music surfers you know we are. With pride and glowing rosy cheeks we bring you some serious ZOUK fire by TWO SEV and JSTJR.

New York City’s finest TWO SEV has been dropping fire for some time now and brings his A game with some dark and superb produced ZOUK riddims for you to grind on. Strip club music for central Africa or the Bronx or Amsterdam’s red light district, who can tell? The bubbling, almost toneless, churpin’ synths of “Hora Da Festa 2.0” appear to be the missing link between Moombahton and ZOUK BASS. Perfect build around a thumping skeletal beat with marching snares, this is some serious music that goes well beyond a party vibe.

Boston’s JSTJR is the perfect partner on this EP. His dark, gloomy beat constructions are prefect for the slow ZOUK grind and he gives the new genre its own darker, disturbing anthem with the awesome “Badman”. Expect that sample yeah, but also detuned, gliding synth hits and some low end rumble. A love affair between the pulse of that kick drum and the bongo’s and other percussion that goes for the double tempo. The more South American flavored “Cerveja” almost sounds like a chopped & screwed Major Lazer track. Yet, it’s a buzzing, synth driven gem that would be too un-commercial for them to brand. Awesome shifting rhythms give this track an edge you have not heard before. And that’s a Generation Bass guarantee!

The two collaborate on a couple of tracks like “Rio a Lobito” with its massive buildup and drumpan sounds. Deep, hard hitting bass drums connect with a sub bass that will make your windows rattle. They pull a similar stunt with the ravey anthem “Future Zouk”, which is like the Euro House of the 90’s reconstructed in a dark basement stacked to the rafters with percussion instruments and people jamming on em. Lush and beautiful track that’s a perfect translation of this new and exciting genre to a more mainstream audience. This is Zoukology.

NAGUMO : MATSURI EVERYWHERE EP [Bass-Bayshi] – Free 4 next 24 hours!

nagumo_jk

Free for only the next 24 hours!

Generation Bass presents: NAGUMO : MATSURI EVERYWHERE EP

After the hailstorm of Zouk Bass we dropped on you the last couple of weeks, the Generation Bass family now take an in depth look at a new Japanese style of bass music, incorporating traditional elements into some fierce Globall Bass that will keep your ears ringing! Meet Nagumo. Nagumo is a Japanese musician, DJ and songwriter based in Tokyo. The dude was born in Saitama, just outside the great city of Tokyo in 1982. Heavily affected by DRAGONBALL, he began making music. Yes, music. Nagumo does not have a set genre. He’s one of those guys that keeps exploring boundaries as he comes across them, making every new genre or song he hears a direct influence. This is some heavy bass music though. Think of a cross between barefoot (remember that? Heavy low end bass rumbling low in tempo as well) and global bass designed to set any dance floor on fire from the likes of Douster or Bert on Beats.

For this release, Nagumo was working on something special. He started working on a couple of tracks that were based on a traditional Japanese groove ”囃子(hayashi/bayashi)”. Fused with top notch production, heavy banging kicks and deep synths this new Electronic Fusion became the new born genre of “Bass-Bayshi”. Are you as intrigued as we were when we first got scent of this development? Matsuri means a traditional festive occasion. Festive as in: gratitude for every day. A very Japanese and humble way of looking at the world you are in. Every day and every place is special for everyone.

The first thing you will hear is a sample of a bird going in the first track “Matsuri Everywhere”, quickly followed by some low traditional drums and steady pace of electronics. The way the two very different forms of music come together is really amazing! Nagumo even goes all out with some Moombahton references. Quick, chirping synths and a galloping cadence in the rhythm add a definite ‘now’ feel to the track. The second track here, “Don Doko Don” fuses the traditional and intricate percussion with some almost violent sounding, buzzing, trancy post-dubstep elements. A very catchy tune that you should have no trouble with dropping in a late night speaker hugging dub step bromance fest! The last track is the chugging “Notteru Ondo”, which has that same runaway train feel as the old T. Raumschmiere stuff, but in a completely new and modern fashion. Heavy duty Global bass! This EP is proof that music still has new routes to explore. New talents to unfathom, new directions to take, new paths to blend with what we have already know. We at Generation Bass are proud to bring someone to your attention that has that urge to come up with something new, not bound to his own cultural heritage, but free in mind and music. Matsuri truly is everywhere!

Artwork: Youchos

She said that this picture symbolizes the hall of Japanese old traditional music style “Gagaku” ……..There is an affinity between Gagaku and Matsuri. Both are the cornerstone of unique music-mind in Japan …

GENERATION BASS PRESENTS DJ PAPARAZZI : LOS TARRAXA EP OUT NOW

ZB los tarraxa sml

Once again, this amazing EP was free for a limited amount of time but is now only available for purchase at all the usual Digital Retailers.

Generation Bass presents: DJ Paparazzi – Los Tarraxa EP

The great DJ Paparazzi has long paid his dues. He is a club dj at several long running nights all over the UK and before that, he played records in several Lisbon clubs.

He is also a producer who has been featured on some high octane compilations with Kuduro and African House like Project Semba Not Pe, Album Segredos and the acclaimed Danca Angola Project Vol1.

His blend of deep bass and twitchy rattling percussion has ZOUK BASS written all over it and to prove that point he now drops this 5 track banger with your favorite label and blog, Generation Bass!

Los Tarraxa EP is pure ZOUK BASS. Slow and deep bangin’ at its 86-88 bpm root, and hyper-tensioned in its almost footwork-like high end and percussion.

The EP starts with a 90’s throwback and a great almost forgotten sample in the track “Let me be your fantasy”, before kicking into gear and a smooth, clean ZOUK BASS bass with the deep, deep bass propelling the track for all the laidback dance floors out there. On the second cut there’s a collab with DJ BaCo and the two work hard at giving all the newbie producers a run for their money with the hard hitting “Vai”. The percussion in there is killing it man. Superb and swinging like there’s no tomorrow. The price cut has got to be the seductive “Mi Ma Mo” though. This has ZOUK BASS “classic” written all over it with the great samples and again, nice and smooth production and deep, plodding bass kicks. The two last cuts round off this 5 track EP with some sexual tension as well, and Dj Pararazzi shows everybody that this slow riddim is perfect for smootching!

Generation Bass is proud to bring you innovative sounds again and to introduce your ears to the new sound of ZOUK BASS, that is taking the world by storm!

GENERATION BASS PRESENTS DZC CREW : DEEP IN ZOUK BASS EP OUT NOW

197746_565072433523808_56178384_n

No longer is this free and so you must now go and buy it.

This is a future classic in this genre!!

Generation Bass presents: DZC Crew : Deejay Kuimba & 2Pekes – “Deep In Zouk Bass” EP

As you know we have a great love for Kuduro music. In fact, it’s one of the reasons we started the blog in the first place. That same raw energy is now resurfacing in 2013. ZOUK BASS has a tension in it though, which is not instantly recognized. A dark, unrelieved tension that makes you expects a crazy breakdown or drop any second. But it’s not coming. It keeps you on your toes with its slow kick drums and double time percussion.

ZOUK BASS as a name for a scene was first brought to our attention by a Buraka Som Sistema’s Boiler Room set, which incidentally started with the Deejay Kuimba track from this release and so there’s some history in this release. We know ZOUK BASS has existed way before the Buraka Boiler Room set aka Tarraxinha. It has now outgrown the ‘hype’ stage of its recent re-introduction with these 4 killer cuts.

2 of the artists from the DZC Crew who feature on this EP are the real deal. Young kids messing around with software and getting stuck on a new tempo, a new discovery that is taking the internet by storm. It has the same almost distorted power as the tracks you might find in Angola or in a Lisbon outskirt. First off there’s Deejay Kuimba, the man that created the template for ZOUK BASS with his awesome track “Tarraxo Na Parede”, featured here in its original and instrumental version. From Cape Verde descent, this young guy just tried to flip the script on some productions he was working on and threw in this mad slow, 86 bpm-ish skeletal beat we now know as ZOUK BASS. The track also features one of his sidekicks DJ Yudifox.

Also on the EP is 2Pekes, who claims a Deep and Dutch House influence next to his Kizomba and Tarraxinha background and who brings the thunderous “Txillo” and equally bangin’ “Deep in Zoukbass” to the table. With bleeping, thin, whiny synths and a beautiful percussion layer, these are those kinds of tracks that will stand the test of time and are ready to become ‘classics’ in this newborn genre.

The DZC crew is bringing the fire to those who are ready to listen and we at Generation Bass are proud to be on the forefront of yet another musical revolution, bringing original music to your ears!

Generation Bass presents: Edu K “Do The Brega!” EP!

Those that know have been following Brazilian producer Edu K for years. From the hard stomping Funk Carioca/Baile Funk sounds of several years ago to the Global Bass he has been dropping which are marked by its top production techniques and heavy slabs of bass and rhythm, everything this guy works on is something special.

After last year’s Man Recordings release “Daniel Haaksman presents Tecnobrega” on which one of the best tracks was an Edu K remix of a Charque track, Edu K is back and has worked the typical Tecnobrega elements in his shiny, glorious and bass heavy sound. Edu K is Brazil’s new millennium answer to the post local, post genre musical era we live in. It’s a high energy mash up of kick ass music that is fresh and unique.

For global music stronghold, or rather, cool music from where-ever stronghold, Generation Bass, Edu K drops a banger of an EP. From the typical rock ‘n roll-gone-Tecnobrega shuffle of “Putaria” to the Tecnobrega meets house collab “Nao Sou Brega, Eu Sou Chique” with fellow music-monger Joao Brasil, this is an all-out assault on your feet and ankles. The contagious fun of an awesome track like “Sanfona Treme Treme” can be dropped at any barbeque or sunny outdoor party anywhere in the world and people will start dancing. The feel good vibes are galore and the sun-drenched optimism of Brazilian beach life translates to audio like no other thing you have heard the last 10 years. There’s a collab with Bondo Do Role of course (the infectious “Danca Da Bicha Manca”) and with mc’s and producers like Jaloo, Caballo and Gato Preto. The twitching and buzzing synths of “Do The Brega!” make this the soon to be war cry of the genre. Up-tempo and swinging its rump from left to right, this is Tecnobrega like there is no tomorrow.

In an Ideal world, this would be the sort of stuff that would make Billboard, banging out of every car that passes you by with their hood down. Chug that Mojito man, turn up the stereo and honk your car horn to the rhythm of Edu K!
