Document One have a new EP coming out, called Bam Bam Pop. It’s also the first release of Modestep’s new label, Max Records. This “debut” release is a big one. In Bam Bam Pop Document One take the heavy sound they’re known for and they kick it up another notch. The songs in the EP don’t have much in common between them. They retain Document’s One sound but evolve from that. The title track Bam Bam EP is surely a track for the festivals, resembling a hard take on house, while Bridge is a heavy-melodic take on garage. Clap would probably fit in Document One’s releases before this EP, it’s a trademark song for the sound they’re known for. Things Change and Don’t Understand are the remaining tracks on the EP, and they’re fast and heavy. The whole EP shows how diverse Document One are in their production. Goes out on the 5th of November on Max Records.]]> 0 The Impeccable DJ Neber With… Latin Flavor Tue, 09 Jul 2013 16:18:49 +0000 a0397590848_10
I wanted a few days to pass before I shared DJ Neber’s LP With Latin Flavor again after its appearance on Sexxy Saturday Cumbia last weekend. I strongly felt it needed its own post as it is that good. DJ Neber has been on the top of many of our best DJ lists when it comes to Cumbia and other Latin American genres. The man does it all. His edits are immediately noticeable with his distinct style of scratching and his way of setting up his intros. In the past DJ Neber has made various appearances here on Generation Bass. Mostly within my weekly Sexxy Saturday Cumbia posts but he’s also made it on here with a mixtape I made of some of his dopest Cumbia Hip Hop edits. You might remember this mix. But now the man has stepped up his game with an all new LP he released on July 2nd. He takes on various Latin music genres in his own unique style. Jam out to this LP and enjoy the free download.]]> 0 Dj Click & Rona Hartner – Boum Ba Clash – CD1 Sun, 07 Jul 2013 05:51:38 +0000 a0961723511_10
DJ Click just released this special collection with Rona Hartner, comprised of a lot of his productions over the past few years. It is a double CD that also comes with an immediate download of the 14 tracks on the first CD. This collection comes with remastering, a remix by Shantel, Gaetano Fabri and an unreleased instrumental, dub, club version. Here is a little, or rather a lot more information about the release I copied from the Bandcamp release… This audio « UFO » shook genres and musical borders upon its release in 2005. Dj Click, as an adventuresome alchemist and pioneer, invented a new style and created a movement electro gypsy, better known nowdays as “Balkan Beats”. Many tracks were released on prestigious compilations and appeared on movie soundtracks like “Children of Men” directed by Alfonso Cuaron, and “Auf der anderen Seite” / “Yaşamın Kıyısında” directed by Fatih Akin. The idea of producing a “folklorotronic” album took place after meeting Rona Hartner and thereafter Dj Click went to Bucharest on 2002 to find inspired feelings and urban sounds: streets and subways, shopping markets, old vinyls.. Back in the studio, the influences take shape and he builds the programming mixing dark and […]]]> 0 Oye!Simpson – MUVAVI EP (Folcore) Mon, 01 Jul 2013 06:02:21 +0000 artworks-000051825850-x93qg1-t500x500
The Folcore netlabel has been quiet lately. It’s good to see them come back on the scene, even more good that my friend Oye!Simpson has the latest release on the label. Muvavi is the title of Oye!Simpson’s new EP endeavor. Currently he has been experimenting with Cumbia and Drum and Bass with his productions and this EP culminates with this approach. I’ve heard these genres combined together before but I must admit Oye!Simpson brings it to a new level. This is due to his original melodies and structures of his productions. They’re catchy, futuristic and quite interesting. Today Muvavi is coming out today on Folcore’s netlabel as a free download. But here I will give you a taste with the single Desde Mi Alma.]]> 0 Never/Mind/The/Darkness/Of/It… – Lee Bannon + More Magic Thu, 27 Jun 2013 06:20:41 +0000 artworks-000048072438-qd3qxs-t500x500
I might be a little late on this, but just by a couple of months. And as we say, better late than never. In my defense, I just recently found out about this incredibly brilliant artist. Lee Bannon is his name, he’s from Sacramento, California and he produces some of the most powerfully dark yet mesmerizingly beautiful music I’ve ever come across. Two months ago he released his beyond excellent album Never/Mind/The/Darkness/Of/It… The best way to listen to this album is to turn the lights down low and turn up the audio on some good monitors and let the music take you away. Therefore the best way to listen to this album is to experience it. The soundscapes are minimal in nature but with every textural sound there is a dopamine release that will flood your frontal lobe sending you into a state of euphoria better than any oral opiate could hope to perform effectively. To supplement the album Lee Bannon released an even more recent track more along the lines of Jungle but with his ambient sonic touches. The new track is called NW/WB (NEWWEB). Download NW/WB for free here! Now seriously turn all the lights off. Turn up the […]]]> 0 Jah Jah Rules by The Selvaticos Thu, 27 Jun 2013 05:09:26 +0000 a2620876041_10
It’s been sometime since Drum and Bass made an appearance here on Generation Bass. With our name in mind it seems only fitting to feature some from time to time. Fortunately this project graced my desk from Latino Resiste. The Selvaticos are a group of currently anonymous Junglist producers who bring the Hard Style – Drum and Bass – Jungle styles to the Latino Resiste label. Jah Jah Rules is the title of their new EP. The EP is set at “name your price”, which I believe is the best way for new acts to release material these days. The beats are hard and fast combining Latin rhythms along with Dancehall into a Jungle/Drum and Bass world. It’s a refreshing sound that takes me back to Bass origins but points to the future with the modern production techniques. Not a bad sound at all I must say. Have a listen yourself!]]> 0 From Ukraine and Russia with [Bass]Love – Chuck UpBeat (Moscow) \|/ Minikin (Kiev) Thu, 08 Dec 2011 08:00:38 +0000 chuck upbeat
Hi everyone, got some ex-USSR bass I want you to hear. So open up your ears, turn down the missile defense system if you live in America, and prepare yourself for some serious…. BASS MUSIC There are a few songs that always make it into my sets, Baile Funk by Chuck Upbeat is one of those. Chuck Upbeat – Baile Folk by Chuck Upbeat I covered Chuck Upbeat’s release on Midget Ninjas Soundsystem back in June. The release is still available for download. There are some new sounds from the man including a preview of his upcoming Tropical Bass album which is sounding very promising. Make sure you give him some feedback as the album is coming together! Chuck Upbeat – Album Sampler by Chuck Upbeat Bout’ a month ago, the beat killer from Russia did a nice experiment slowing down drum and bass to make it sound closer to dubstep. He wrote to me, Actually I was inspired by the track of Donaeo – Riot Music (with Shy FX). I can’t say I managed to make it properly but at least I tried to show the remixes as an idea of such music. The “Phillip D Kick” experiment By Om Unit The Phillip D Kick experiment was originally conceived as an anonymous alias project of mine. However being useless at keeping secrets I let the cat out of the bag to close friends and musical compadrés shortly after starting it. As it would only be a matter of time before rumours become eye-rolling fact I have decided to end the project 8 months after starting it with volume 3 thus ending my work under this alias on what is, at least to me, a high note. Phillip D Kick is an idea I had at the beginning of 2011 during a discussion about how fun it had been to mix Juke and Jungle tracks together at shows. The idea, very simply put, was that both genres were basically the same thing – frenetic syncopation at 160bpm or thereabouts. Taking this idea a little further, I came up with a simple concept: take classic Jungle tracks and make edits of them with a footwork aesthetic. But rather than do this under my own name I would release them anonymously as a social experiment. The ‘story’ would be that Phillip D Kick was in fact […]]]> 0 SNOW PATROL BEAUTIFUL DRUMSTEP REMIX Sat, 05 Mar 2011 12:19:23 +0000 phpPTtTGf
