Nedu Lopes at Club Popozuda

NEDU-Foto-release-2

Nedu Lopes is one of the biggest dj’s and talentous dj’s from Brazil. He appear in 3 finals of Red Bull 3styles championshing, losing in 3 cases to the home dj. So he decided to enter again only when the finals be in Brazil. (it’s a nice conclusion and I TOTTALLY agree with him).

Another day, Bumps asked me for a contact of Nedu to invite him for Club Popozuda Mixtape. At first moment I be in doubt because Club Popozuda have a lot of influence from baile funk, and Nedu isn’t a ghetto music dj. BUT, (read again BUT), he created a great mixtape with A-MA-ZING MIXES. It’s very nice to listen a mix as that because you can remember that exist 2 kind of people in musical scene: producers, making music and DJ, mixing music. There is to different jobs, with two differents skills. I know a lot of producers nowadays is playing, but it’s very different to listen a dj and a producer – you-know-that.

ok, no more bla-bla-bla, here is the mixtape with a huge influence of miami bass, and that’s it the best part of set. Enjoy and grab it for free.

Dengue Dengue Dengue! – Serpiente Dorada EP

SerpienteDorada

Dengue Dengue Dengue! is one of the best examples of everything that makes digital cumbia so tirelessly amazing. Since 2010 this visionary duo from Lima has been experimenting  with combining traditional and mainstream elements with galactic, digital futurism. This mix of psychedelic 70’s chicha, Andean prehispanic culture, with dub, techno and bass has created an unique, hypnotising sound and visual style that has been blowing our minds since we heard them for the first time! And we from Generation Bass were not the only ones with that experience…

“We were instantly hooked,” writes Enchufada, “we knew we had to have them on our catalog.” And here is the result. ‘Serpiente Dorada’ , ‘Golden Serpent’, is a fresh new EP with six fantastic tracks, never afraid of breaking new ground!

Banana is the perfect opening tune. The smooth fusion of zouk bass and cumbia, completed with a tropical flute and mysterious sounds are the perfect musical summary of the entire EP!

Serpiente Dorada, central track of the EP, is a return to the the sound that has become their hallmark: hypnotic cumbia fused with the dreamy sounds of dub and reggae. The electrifying Villera-lead which enters the track about half-way is the icing on the cake!

Rama, best described as transnational techno, is an eclectic uptempo experiment which combines dembow, cumbia and Middle-Eastern-sounding percussion with the sweet rhythmical grooves of techno and techhouse!

Booom is the track that leans most heavily towards dub, deliciously downtempo and with downpitched vocals strongly reminiscent of Mexican cumbia rebajada. The ominous melody and background sounds give the track an overall dark and apocalyptic atmosphere!

Bugutu is described by Enchufada as the second zouk bass track on the EP but Gabriel Rowano’s ‘lento‘, downtempo moombahton with more dembow than Dutch house sounds, would be an equally applicable tag. This minimalistic but powerful tune with a subtle dark edge is ready to heat up the dancefloor!

Senen Pani, is one of those amazing genre-crossing experiments that make you realise that the whole idea of categorising is in fact pretty pointless. This excellent closing track is somewhat oldskool hiphop, somewhat Miami bass, somewhat oldskool dubstep and again skillfully spiced up with a dark and ominous melody, diverse Afro-Latin percussion and ritualistic chants!

With this EP, which demonstrates the limitless creativity of blending and exploring new sounds, the duo from Peru has created a powerful example not just for the digital cumbia or the transnational bass scene but for the future of music as a whole!

Get the EP on iTunes, JunodownloadBeatport or Boomkat!

…and if you’re wondering how epic it must be to see them live, check out this mouthwatering trailer for a documentary in the making!

Zuzuka Poderosa & Kush Arora's 'Seda' Video

120213-zuzukapoderosa

What a way to celebrate my 2,500th post with this great video!

Generation Bass First Lady aka Amazonian Warrior Princess aka Princess of Baile Funk, Zuzuka!

She is in damn fine form here in sound and image!

Killa track Killa Lady and Killa producer Killa Kush Arora!

Here’s what Spin said about it all:

The Carioca Bass EP, out now on Little Owl Recordings, is a collaboration between Brazillian MC Zuzuka Poderosa and Bay Area beatmaker Kush Arora. They’re mining the still-fertile world of baile funk, tweaking the formula made popular by bigtime musical globetrotters like Diplo until it rubs up against an ever-expanding global bass music scene that’s still figuring itself out (and never standing still).

The EP is set up like an old-fashioned dance 12-inch, with two mean tracks (“Pisicodelia,” an almost industrial Lady D-like smack upside the head, and “Seda”) and a whole bunch of wide-eyed remixes (including contributions from Chrissy Murderbot and CEE). “Seda” is a pro-pot, anti-criminalization party track that’s all peaks and no valleys, one storm of grinding energy after another, with a gloriously extended beginning of choppy muffled grunts. Its video, by Artur Kummer (director of photography for the Brazilian music documentary Beyond Ipanema which featured Zuzuka), moves from a South Bronx mansion to an expressionistic Kuchar Brothers medium-budget netherworld, featuring Zuzuka as a futuristic #AllGoldEverything shaman at the center of it all. Dawn Richard, watch out.

Zuzuka Poderosa – Carioca Bass EP

artworks-000039385469-17izn6-original

Amazing new EP out by Generation Bass First Lady Zuzuka.

This is truly spectacular stuff and demonstrates that after 6+ years in the Transnational Bass scene, she is still one of its leading ladies by a long mile.

This is killa, don’t sleep on it.

Here’s what FACT MAG said:

On her Carioca Bass EP, she has collaborated with Bay Area producer Kush Arora on a pair of baile funk tunes that use the genre’s everything-in-the-blender ethos to subwoofer melting effect. The title of ‘Seda’ (Portuguese for “rolling papers”) is a play on words, as Zuzuka meditates on the criminalization/legalization of pot over a club-rap grinder. ‘Psicodelia’ owes more to baile funk’s Miami bass tradition, with Zuzuka rapping about fireworks that are actually blasts of favela gunfire.

Kush Arora elaborates on what makes Zuzuka such a unique voice in the dance underground. “She sounds dangerous, intense, unhinged, and different and more experimental than the baile funk, carioca, and tropical bass vocalists I hear out there,” he says. “She has that knack to take people, propel them into motion to get down and forget about the world, but lyrically she’s not all fun and games, which is very important to me.”

Accompanying the pair of originals are remixes by a host of like-minded producers from around the world, including Chicago bodyjacker Chrissy Murderbot, Miami bass fanatics Jubilee & Burt Fox, Rio-via-Canada’s Nego Mozambique, San Antonio’s Sonora, Vancouver’s HxdB, and Malaysia’s CEE.

Stream Carioca Bass below. The EP is out now on Little Owl Recordings and is available on iTunes.

Okulus Anomali Multi-Headed Bass Monster post

Seeing that Bass Music has evolved into a beautiful multi-headed bass-beast, this post reflects a lot of the styles that have been inspiring me in the past 6 months…including Dubstep / Post-Dubstep / Future Bass / Miami Bass Music / Grime . DEEP 808 BANGERS by RA-X!

In a past life I was known to drop some vinyl as RA-X, havent really worked under that alias for ages really, until I refound some of my love for steady 808 booming electro beats a couple of weeks ago. In about a week’s time I burned up behind my equipment and dropped about 8 or 9 tracks. The best 5 plus a bonus one are now online at the VIRGIN FANG bandcamp. I think these beats are among the best I’ve made for some time and I hope you have a couple of secs to check them out!

This release is dedicated to one of my fav flicks, the 80’s dystopian comedy THE STUFF, check that one out if you like madness and consumer criticism, packed in a nice zombie story! here’s a clip of that great movie, followed by the link to the BANDCAMP page where you can play and (possibly) buy the cutssss!!!

NU MIAMI BASSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Check out this stuff by PJ Pooterhoots, the solo project of San Francisco based synth commander Craig Drake.  PJ takes the 808 to the beach under the warm Florida sun, resulting in his latest EP titled “Miami Swipe”. Choc-O-block filled with the signature PJ rippidy sounds, Jan Hammer inspired sultry synth licks, and 2 live crew Miami Bass beats, this EP speeds up the shoreline current to bring you an electro dance floor melter!

Make no mistake that Pooterhoots tracks are the true unsaturated, unhyped, and uncompromised sounds of an ideal tomorrow. Now proudly teaming up with Tigerbass, the future promises to spray out an exciting evolution in the continuing PJ saga.

PRESS QUOTES:

“Avant-booty rap uses classic Miami bass synths on ‘Pop That Coochi’ and Baltimore-influenced dirty beats on ‘Glitterati’. Hop to it.” XLR8R

“Electro bump ‘n’ grind that blends Prince’s libido-loosening funk with unrestrained eruptions of jittery beat jism.” GQ

“Cape Town’s hyperactive, gutter-mouthed, ‘African electro’ duo, Sweat X… armed with a bunch of ‘future primitive’ rave funk, glitchy melodies and club-friendly glam hip-house, have arrived at exactly the right time.” TIME OUT

“MC and DJ/producer duos, it’s time to step up your game. Sweat.X are coming from South Africa to steal your hype, your dancefloor, your future record deals and probably your girlfriends too whether you like it or not.” LA DECADANSE
