Lucid – The New Reprise (Nightshifters Records – NS024)

Lucid – Closed Eye from Nightshifters on Vimeo.

I <3 Nightshifters music, and here is another release to make you feet dance and your brain jitter! Welcome Lucid, a Dj/Producer from Melbourne, Australia with his (debut?) release: The New Reprise.

Lucid- The New Reprise EP Mini Mix ( Nightshifters) by lucid

Darkish and unexpected, a collision of sound waves in a multi-layered ocean, Lucid follows very little guidelines. The video at the top of this post does a perfect job portraying the complexity and random feeling of this release.  Give a listen and grab Shh while you can, it can be a phenomenal set opener to just about any style of DJ I can imagine.

Jitter from the label:

You know how people say things like “next level” and “you’re not ready”, but then you hear the tracks, and you’re like “well, I was ready and it’s just like 1 baby-step away from whatever’s current now”.  But of course, very rarely, there is music that when you hear it you aren’t actually ready for, music so different that it brings about a fundamental re-evaluation of what you think is actually music. Well, guess what. We’re happy to announce the debut release by Lucid on Nightshifters. It’s so next level that you’re literally not ready.

Lucid makes music that sits between a lot of different aesthetics. In some ways he has taken a lot of “future” sounds and ideas from a lot of different types of music and then processed them into something that’s for the club despite sounding completely unique. All the elements you’d expect are there, subby kicks, sharp snares, and few whooshing bits and a few fiery synths – but to be honest, they are all in the wrong place. This new sound, this new concept in music, is so fundamentally thrilling that we have to really watch when we drop it.  “The New Reprise” is so advanced that you’re bound to get some funny looks, but what we’re saying is this: this sh*t slays.

Every track on this EP is a surprise. The collision of sounds and sub frequencies is constantly curious.  The Ep starts off with Jumbo – an overdriven slammer with massive snares and mind-melting frequency-bends. “Togo” marches to its entirely own robotic drummer with flanged grunts and a brutal drop about half way through.  “Closed Eye” has some rave elements convoluted through an intergalactic spectrum while “Shh” slides between Electro in a blender and a case of whiplash. “Drung” closes out the original tracks with one of the biggest and most confounding breakdowns you’ll hear this year. I mean, we can throw a bunch of words and genres together, but the reality is you’ll listen to this and realize how little you know.

An Ep this good doesn’t need remixes, but we have some pretty incredible ones for you anyway. Sam Tiba from the unstoppable Club Cheval crew drops perhaps his best tune yet with an incredible trans-dimensional remix of “Shh”. The Godfather of Baltimore Club Music, Scottie B, goes way  out with a noisy remix of “Jumbo” that should have the club in full-pogo mode, and UK’s Norrit shows us a slightly warmer, housier version of “Jumbo” that we know will get a ton of play.

We’ll say it again; Lucid’s “The New Reprise” is so next level that you’re literally not ready.

HOSTAGE – WITCHES EP

From the label that brought us CanBlaster, comes a wicked new release by Hostage (Alan Hostage, Edinburgh, Britain (UK)). I totally agree with the label, this release is FIRE! (Super cool that they release an EP called Witches on the summer solstice).

4 Original tunes and 4 remixes of pure quality dancefloor banger.  Nightshifters want you to blast the clubs with his sound, here is the link for the title track: Hostage – Witches (320Kbps)

HOSTAGE – WITCHES EP
BEATPORT EXCLUSIVE on June 21st, 2011
Nightshifters NS023

4 Original tracks
remixes by Calvertron,  Willy Joy, Marcus Price and DJ Donna Summer

Hostage has been setting clubs on fire for about 3 years now with appearances all over the world on a never-ending tour schedule. He’s in demand for a reason – he’s incredible. Yes, the man is a professional party animal and we’ve seen him whip a crowd into frenzy by just walking on stage. We’ve been proud to release all his major Ep’s so far and we’re just as proud to release his next. Ladies and Germs, we’re proud to bring you “Witches”, the latest rave-exploding EP from Hostage!

Alan Parley aka Hostage delivers an EP that is nothing short of breathtaking. The title track shows off Hostage’s dexterity with epic synth lines while “Alright” is a siren infused stepper that’ll have crowds screaming for rewinds! The soulful “Everybody” will be a surprise for some as it shows off a more experimental sound with splintered breaks ricocheting amongst a riot of bass. But don’t get your face burnt off by “Fire” – easily the fiercest track we’ve released on Nighthisfters to date! Yes, “Fire” is far from subtle, yes it’s a drum and bass track, and yes, crowds will go absolutely insane when you play it. We guarantee it!

Nightshifters went in on the remixes this time. Calvertron has been on a roll lately making huge dubstep-rave tracks and his remix of Witches might be among his biggest yet. I mean seriously, this track has one of the most incredible drops you’ve ever heard! Willy Joy brings in some heavy as well with his bassbin-rupturing remix of Everybody while Marcus Price drops a surprise juke remake of Alright that’s bound to bring the footwork. Clocking in at just under 8 minutes, Nightshifters label boss DJ Donna Summer makes an epic remake of Fire that replaces synths with brass sections and church bells. It’s an epic end to an epic EP!

Official Press:

One doesn’t expect to speak about clocks when it comes to club music. “Master Of Complication” the new Ep by Canblaster, is a concept record about time, speed and, well, the complexity of watches. Of course there are many things about the music of Canblaster that is not what you expect. First of all, his music is ultra-melodic with an almost Zen like use of melodies that lifts you right off the ground. Then there’s the everything-including-the-kitchen-sink beats filled with details that always seem to point outward to an even larger world.

But we’re getting ahead of ourselves, let us introduce you to Canblaster, aka Cédric Steffens, he’s from Northern France and he’s part of the Club Cheval crew that’s currently storming the scene.  He’s only 22 but his unique ability to combine genres and sounds belie wisdom beyond his years.  “Master Of Complication” is his first for Nightshifters and, to be honest, it’s so full of new noises we’re not really sure how to describe it.

“Clockworks”, the slowest track (132bpm), kicks it all off with a soaring melody of reverberant House stabs and ticking watch beats. One notch faster is “Triple Ring” (140bpm) with probably the catchiest vocal hook of the year! It’s a UK-influenced club smash like no other! Sure, people could call “Lost In The Shell” (160bpm) a juke/footwork styled tune, but they’d be overlooking all the other music smashing – it’s the hardest song of the lot and guaranteed to start fights!  The release ends with “Timemaster’s Chronicles” (180bpm), a thrillingly progressive tune that remains true to the Ep’s R&B tinged spirit while hinting at every other musical genre in existence. Really!

In addition to 4 completely amazing original tracks, we have 4 completely amazing remixes. French superstars Para One & Teki Latex team up for one of their best remixes ever on “Clockworks”, a time-crushing fusion of synths past and present with added Robotic vocals.  We’re proud to debut one of our new artists as well – Magnum takes “Triple Ring” and cuts it with superbly with breaks and a ton of atmosphere. Jubilee takes the same track to Miami, adds a touch of acid, and lets that bass boom! Bambounou takes “Timemaster’s Chronicles” and completely reconfigures it as a steamy northern UK bass masterpiece from the future!

Canblaster is also the first of a next generation of producers we’re proud to be working with. Together with Magnum (he’s next), Distal and Talk, they are a new generation of producers that are pushing the limits in a big way.
