We’re not huge Rusko fans but we support his independence move and full power to him!
This really appears to be the only future way forward, we too are thinking official releases are such a ball-ache and that we should release totally free!
The amount of time, effort and energy that goes into putting together an Official release is in no-way compensated with digital income returns, in fact the returns are embarrassing and it’s only making the distributors and digital platforms like Beatport richer but not really doing anything for the artists or the labels.
This tape went up less than 24 hours ago, and it’s at 15,000 streams. I’m baffled. It’s actually a bit dated though. The full release has been building steam for nearly a month in the ‘Unreleased Tapes’ section, and the launch was beyond my expectations. This includes some of my favorite tunes right now, and I’m glad there was such a big response.
‘Dirty Bandit’ by Lost is a BANGER. Joe Nice was one of the few DJs that had this. Nobody seemed to have it, and I saw no plans of it being released. It finally dropped as a free download on Lost’s Facebook fan page almost 6 months after I originally heard the clip. The refix I did with Chance The Rapper is one of the most aggressive tunes I could have picked. ‘Space Hut’ is a 15 second clip from a project I’m working on. Santi Junior refixes Heroes x Villains. I’m wrapping a tape with Santi Junior now, and hope to release one with Daniel Disaster of Heroes x Villains this spring. The rest of the mix is played safe, actually. Until you get to ‘The License’, the experience is on cruise control.
The reason I picked this track to end the release is because I see the future of bass music beyond 70 beats per minute. This time in music reminds me of when we witnessed the death of Drum N Bass 5 or 6 years ago. Respectable Dubstep producers are making SICK House, Electro, and Moombahton right now. I’m making hip-hop beats. I represent a Moombahton artist. I release a monthly Drum n Bass mix through Dogs On Acid. My next release through clubtapes is going to be Juke. The tides are shifting. But when Doctor P is making massive Dubstep to Moombahton transition anthems, you can be sure that the pattern has been broken.
That being said, Thugstep isn’t going anywhere. It’s a brand I’ve been championing for more than half a decade. Expect it to sound a little different in the future though.
There are a handful of tracks that I cannot stop listening to. Given the amount of music I have, it’s quite odd when I dedicate a dozen listens to one song. Some are new, some have aged a bit. But all of these move me.
This tune tugs at your earlobes when played loud. Wonderful progression and melody.

Lorn’s 2010 release ‘Nothing Else’ was one of the most beautiful albums last year. This is the only tune uploaded to his soundcloud, and is quite marvelous.

This last one has been bothering me for the last month. I heard it on a radio show, found it on soundcloud, and haven’t been able to locate a 320, or even a legitimate rip of it. And it’s still in regular rotation. It’s THAT good. Kutz keeps telling me I have to wait. This is infuriating.

And, as always, I invite you to submit any properly tagged 320’s. I listen to everything I’m sent. [email protected]

I love Jazz but usually I hate trumpets /sax in electronic dance music, always sounds a lil’ cheesy to me but here’s a dub trumpet track that really caught my attention. Man it’s a GREAT track!
These boyz are:
2 guys: Lukas Frei (Rawkus) & Kaya Brandl (Soulution) We know each other since we were nine years old and we try to do music since 2005. Together we’re producing since 2007. At the beginning we were into drum & bass music but right now we know that there is no other music like dubstep.
Rawkus also deejays (in local bars like “Pankraz” but also in our capital city Vienna.), Soulution not (how bad, but he’s going to learn it :-p) Our ambition is to arrange a little studio sometime, but right now we’re just trying to do our best. Actually you can say we’re just two silly guys who are fascinated by apes and like the same sound.

Also you need to check this out via the xcellent FADER:
As previously announced, The FADER is embarking on a yearlong remix project with the legendary Latin label Fania, wherein we enlist some of our favorite musicians to reinterpret classics from their celebrated catalog. Today, we’re thrilled to premiere the first in the series, for which Monterrey-based DJ/producer Toy Selectah has envisioned Willie Colón’s haunting salsa classic “Aguanile” as a portal to the future of the sacred 6/8 rhythm. Voiced by hallowed singer Hector Lavoe, the song feels like a stepladder from the ancient rhythmic past to the very immediate present, manifested in the new Mexican style called tribal guarachero. Read our interview with Toy about his interpretation of this song after the jump, and read more about him in our tribal guarachero story in our latest issue. You can buy this remix off Fania’s site, purchase it on vinyl EP in the coming months, or grab the whole 12-song series on vinyl and CD at the end of the year.
Big, Big congrats to Bert on Beats for winning the Gotan project remix contest recently, his remix was chosen as one of the winning ones.
I use to be a MASSIVE Gotan head and indeed my dj name “UMB” is an abridged version of a track of theirs but sadly all their innovation was absent from their most recent album which was pretty DIRE!
But this BOB remix is awesome just like much of his other work, he never fails to create something which gets you excited and is always top quality. Gotta say I have not heard a bad track from him yet and so for me he is definitley one of the MOST consistent in the batch of young Tropical producers out there.
Philly BOUNCE” – SABO. I made this tune for Dave Nada to play at the Mad Decent block party last month in Philadelphia. Dave didn’t see my email until after the gig, and in retrospect, i’m not even sure the Ursula Rucker philly reference would have been understood by the young crowd, but i still love how this remix came out…Since I haven’t posted anything in almost a month I’d thought why not give it away? ENJOY mi gente, and feel free to blog / share / re-post!
Our friend, Un Mono Azul, impressed last year with perhaps “one” of the best remixes I’ve heard from Zizek when he did his brilliant Fauna remix of “Las Mil Caras”.
He has now sent me this great pack consisting of 14 remixes, refixes, edits, mash ups and mutants. It includes the Gaudi Bad Boy Bass remix that I asked him to do but which sadly did not make the first EP and also some other great stuff.
The pack is full of variety and his take on many different genres from Nu Cumbia, Global Ghettotech, Moombahton through to Tropical.
Keep your eyes on this kid cause he’s definitley one to watch!
Here’s the Tracklist:
1. Bomba Estereo – Fuego (Un Mono Azul remix)
