Saturated releases are always well worth checking out, I luv their futuristic electronic sounds.  Some of their artists are damn fine too like Doshy, G Jones, Joney and Subp Yao.

This compilation doesn’t disappoint either full of Future Bass goodness and it’s free too. 20 cracking tracks covering everything from wonk, glitch, experimental electronica through to trap, grime, 8bit and future garage.

There’s various things I’ve been meaning to post here for the past few months but never quite got round to it, so here’s a little round up of the best, global glitchiness and worldwide wonk, with plenty of free downloads scattered throughout. Dig in!

King Deluxe Presents: Year One

King Deluxe, a label I’ve been following closely, celebrated their first birthday back in December with this mammoth compilation mixing forward thinking futuristic bass music with classic Warpesque 90s electronics and unspeakably luscious artwork, as is the way with everything on the label. From the more straight up dubstep of El Haijn’s sinister Out of the Unknown (with a tiny flute sampling lending it a transnational vybe) and ID’s dark (post?) dubstep roller through to slightly more left field offerings from Longwalkshortdock (You Berg – glitchy future bass revisiting Orbital and System 7) and the amazing Aleph (Sulfozinum – slimy 8 bit jujustep (if you’ve ever played Monkey Island, skip this tune to 2:32 and you will agree this is a valid genre)), pretty much every tune on here is a winner.

Grab a couple of freebies:

Aleph – Sulfozinum

El Haijn – Out of the Unknown

BleepBloop’s new free-or-not-free-depending-on-how-generous-you’re-feeling EP takes influences from Footwork, chiptunes and vintage vinyl to create something deliciously weird. FutureVintageFootwork.

Uncomfortable Beats

Uncomfortable Beats drops their second compilation, 10 tracks showcasing the wonkiest Antipodean beatsmiths. In particular check out Able8’s booom-bit-bap banger Home Computer Manual (grab this one free below), Ghostsoul’s psychedelic skanker Dusty Technology – perfect name – and Tape Deck by Cazeaux O.S.L.O, lush bit hop which descends into controlled chaos when the carefully unquantised 4-4 kick comes in. Mannheim Rocket’s Oppersdorff is simultaneously expansive and claustrophobic, a kind of intense but ambiguous ending to the collection.

FREE DOWNLOAD: Able8 – Home Computer Manual

At only 16, XXYYXX shows massive promise here as a producer. Atmospheric garage shuffler LUV U GRL with it’s cheeky R&B sample is the standout here for me, and the opener Eclipse in collab with RuddyP is pure future sundrenched loveliness.

RL Grime

New Yorker Henry Steinway takes on some UK sounds here, his own take on grime & garage. Hold It (check it on the EP, it’s not on his soundcloud so I can’t post it here) is an enormous dark dubstep/grime stomper, and I’m loving the deep dreamy wonkysoul of D33J’s Die 4 Me remix.

3 free tunes on a future garage / wonkysoul vybe, Schlunk lollops along through a THC haze with psychedelic 80s synths cutting through it, amazing stuff.

So the first one of these came out a few years back this one is even better. Australian Voodoo Bass scientist delivers this new freebie. It was the last track he played as the Opening act of Blip Fest Australia and it really left an impression on me.. Huge Abstract Massive rhythms and great sound design.. grab it!

1000 Names – Invisible Architect

This is sounding really fresh, liking this very much.

The Invisible Architect is the third full-length album by like minded production duo and long-term friends 1000names. Unlike their previous releases, which focused more on technology and machinery, they drew their inspiration for this album from the unconscious moments that just happen during live shows or studio improvisations, those happy accidents when the music emerges out of the chaos with no traceable origin. In these unconscious moments, it seems, the invisible architect – a mysterious natural power – creates this untouched and raw music, almost like the geological formation of rocks in a mountain or the trees in a forest are formed by the fundamental forces of nature.

In their own words: “It’s a mystery where the music comes from and why it sounds the way it does. We look for the answer in the garden of the invisible architect – and try just to be…

This week: EshOne providea all the wonky latin bass you never knew you needed, DJ Mpula takes us on a mini Kuduro excursion and Sol Rising shoots us into space on a psy-global-bass ride…

EshOne posted this mix of his own productions on the Moombah FB group, promising some moombahtonised versions in the pipeline, but dude, there’s no need, you’re already blazing a trail here. Wonky 140 latin bass, heavier on the latin for the first half of the mix, then heavier on the wonky from then on. The tune at around 33.50 is sinister as fuck. You know you need these tunes so click the ‘buy’ link on the player to grab some of them from Beatport.

broken mixtape

I’m back with another global mixxxtape selection, this week I invite you to get warm & sweaty with DJ WastePicker, get filthy with Dieselboy, and relax with a post-filth smoke & Dibiase…

DJ WastePicker

dj wastepicker africa

An excellent mix here in which the DJs ego takes a back seat to allow the amazing music within to speak for itself. That’s not to say there’s no skill on show here from WastePicker: first and foremost it’s an awesome selection, which is the main skill of any DJ, whilst the mixing itself is not overly flashy, creating extended blends or mashups, but rather goes for subtle understated transitions. WastePicker warms us up with some afrobeat & hip hop, ramping up into globalhaus as the mix goes on. The Nkasei tune is amazing, as is the super mellow finish from Pacific Steppaz.

If you’re around Edinburgh then check Wastepicker out at Departure Lounge

Dieselboy - Unleashed

I was stoked to stumble across this mix from Dieselboy… I used to be well into my d&b towards the end of the 90s, and when my brother went to live in America for a while in 2000 or so he sent me back a Dieselboy mix CD which blew me away with its intensity, the beats collapsing over themselves with apocalyptic precision, always on the verge of self destruction. It represented the sound of the USA taking a British electronic genre and not only understanding it (which was rare enough at the time) but building on it and expanding it. This mix continues in that vein, although by now these styles have infused around the world so it’s not quite the revelation that mix was ten years ago. There’s some EPIC dubstep / drumstep in here… Check the build from 22.20 to the drop at 22.40, but try not to break anything. IT’S TIME TO GET FUCKING GRIMEY. 40:45 is UGLY. It will leave you feeling VIOLATED. (I think it’s Zardonic + Numbernin6 feat Messinian – End Of Days (Dieselboy VIP) which I can’t find anywhere online… I guess I’m not enough of a VIP). After about 45 minutes he slows the pace down for straight up dubstep until the end, which is a constant ugly violation. It actually got a bit too much for me after a while

Mixtape time guys, this week’s selected selectas are Memory9, Bare Naturals and Jack B Nimble… lets get to it:

Here’s something much more laid back than I usually post, a sublime mix of wonky funk, or perhaps funky wonk, hip hop, global electronica full of lovely surprises… Or “a shuttle ride through the cosmic slop” as they say over at Skanky Panky. Memory9’s own tune Crash at 28 minutes-ish is exquisite, and I love the juxtaposition with Silkie’s Concrete Jungle Deep which follows. The dirty south / celtic fiddle of Willie Isz’ The Grussle at 45.00 is amazing – and another unexpected transition that works amazingly – and there’s an interesting take on Goran Bregovic’s Kalasnjikov, toning down its crazy freneticism (is that a word?) at the end.

Check out M9’s forthcoming Skanky Panky Release here: Memory 9 feat Jukali – Mission

Bare Naturals

Global tech haus, uk funky, dutty dutch & bootyshakin baile funk. Listening to this I was trying to figure out what the current tune was and guessed i was at about track 4 – then suddenly Afrojack’s Pon The Street started coming in, which is track 10… that’s a sign of a skilful blend if you ask me, these dudes aren’t just mixing intros into outros but properly blending this stuff together, whilst still creating something that makes sense overall… check it!

Hey we just want to wish MIXCLOUD a huge happy 1st birthday.

I also want to personally thank Mixcloud for giving me so much support since I first started uploading my mixes on their site. I was a little taken aback when they started to give me loads of love and I did not expect it and so thanks a bunch guys.

All the best for the future from all of the Generation Bass team.

Here’s a great birthday mix put together by Nikhil aka DJ Sketchy, one of the main men behind this great music site. As you can see from the mix he has used some stuff he found on Generation Bass after hearing some of my mixes and so BIG up man!

Here’s what he says:

Time really does fly when you’re having fun. I remember 21 September 2009 so clearly – massive countdown timer on the site, phones off the hook, and somehow topping the Twitter trending list with no less than 4 topics!

Without sounding cliched, the past 12 months have been a rollercoaster. Lots of fun & good times, plenty of challenges & lessons learned.

We’re all so proud to have built such a fantastic, creative community – thank you all for being involved. I’m also honoured to have worked with so many inspiring people and companies over the past 12 months – thank you for sharing our vision and supporting the project.

This is my Birthday Mix to Mixcloud, including many tracks & artists discovered directly or indirectly through the site, e.g.

Amede & The Soundsmith via Laid Back
Lunice and TOKiMONSTA via RBMA Radio
Throwing Snow via Jus Like Music
Roska’s Squark via Bleep
Busi Mhlongo via DJ Umb (Generation Bass)

Thank you beloved Mixclouders. Bring on Year 2 😉
