DUBSTEP MONDAY @ GENERATION BASS
Tonight we have:
1. VILLAGE KOLLEKTIV
2. FISH FINGER/CONNECTIONIST
3. AKIRA KITESHI
4. SOFT WASP
7. SUBATOMIC SOUND SYSTEM
8. DJ STYTE
Let’s start with something I’m being credited as having helped to define as a possible new sub-genre TRANSNATIONAL DUBSTEP.
I came out with this new name only 2 months ago but it’s already starting to become adopted by a whole new swathe of Dubstep producers who are lapping up the term.
Plus the existing Dubstep producers who were creating these vibes but finding it difficult just to classify it as merely Dubstep are now re-classifying their music as Transnational Dubstep 🙂
Even Wikipedia has quoted it in connection with how I chose to define the music of Liquid Stranger, see HERE.
So what is Transnational Dubstep? Well it’s essentially Dubstep that has an ethnic inflexion about it, be it Indian, Arabic, South American etc etc or as in this case here, Balkan.
And wow, I’ve created a term to define a sub-genre…lmfao…
So what Transnational Dubstep do we have here with this Balkan track, well it’s by Village Kollektiv who define it as SIDESTEP but they might now re-classify it after reading this!!!!
It’s a very cool track called Nazad – VK Sidestep version.
In fact you can download the whole EP release which includes a SHAZALAKAZOO remix too from HERE.
This guy FISH FINGER from Santa Cruz, USA was brought to my attention by my good friend Maria a.k.a. “CONNECTIONIST” one of the UK’s leading Dubstep Princesses. She uses mostly vinyl and always mixes it up live, no computers/software for our Dubstep Princess.
I first heard him on her radio show and immediately asked her who this guy was. You can catch/download her show of last night HERE:
Check out his stuff cause I really, really rate him.
Again we come back to Akira Kiteshi.
Most recently I stuck up one of his free albums and got a bit of flack from peeps saying it was hardly something that could define Akira Kiteshi.
Well whilst I agree with that to an extent, he did make the album and it is Akira Kiteshi and so of course it defines an aspect of what he does but yes, ok, not that other aspect that we all love AK for, that is, DUBSTEP!
My excuse, well he had no free downloads and so how could I show that part cause all our readers like downloads and not streamers…lol
Well, that’s all changed now and you can grab yourself some BRILLIANT tracks showcasing the AK we all love him most for…DIRRRTY DUBSTEP!!!
All the downloads ran out but you can grab 2 of them here:
This guy SOFT WASP makes what seems like a tune a day and they’re always interesting to listen to. Not always my cuppa but some I really, really love. He’s completely unpredictable……
…..you never know what he’s building in there….
More often than not though he comes up trumps!
So check out our Soft Wasp, he only bites once and then YOU die!
What can I say except that this is quite a decent unofficial remix of a Delerium track and so grab it!
My favourite PUNKSTEP band are back with another freebie and this time they aim towards a TRANSNATIONAL PUNKSTEP vibe..ahahaha..
Check it out for yourself, it’s unique!!!
SUBATOMIC SOUND SYSTEM
Checked these guys out after they left a comment on one of Caballo’s posts.
This is TRANSNATIONAL DUB as opposed to Dubstep with a real old skool DUB FLAVA permeating the whole track.
They reckon it’s quite Middle Eastern sounding but I’d say it only has the feintest hint of a Middle Eastern flava. More so in the Jewish tradition with those familiar guitar lines that most of us nowadays associate with bands like Balkan Beat Box and Soulico.
A remix by DJ STYTE of an infamous BORGORE track and it’s quite good!
Downloads ran out again and so grab one of them here:
A couple of tracks here by Germany’s BASSADOR and I really, really like these. Good tracks for an opening or warm up dj set anywhere.
