I don’t really need to tell you who Talvin Singh is, do I?

If you don’t know I suggest you google his name and find out and check out his back catalogue as he’s one of the fathers of Asian Electronica. He has collaborated with Björk, Blondie, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Madonna, DJ Spooky, The Master Musicians of Jajouka, Jay Z, Alisha’s Attic, and Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.

This new track caught my attention a few weeks back and it’s probably the best thing I’ve ever heard from him.   It just connected with me on a personal and emotional level.

It’s meaning, “Janam” is “Birth”, and if this is Talvin Singh’s new birth then I very much look forward to him being born again.

I hope there is more of this kinda vibe on any new intended release by him because this is incredibly fragile and beautiful stuff!

This is music with deeep meaning!

Janam by Talvin Singh

Here’s a reminder of his great past:

Yep, I know, your thinking where’s the

So I found this old mixxtape that I did, I think way back in 2002/2003!!!

I started dj’ing out live in 2005.  So this mixxtape was recorded during a time when I’d NEVER EVER dj’ed out live but I was starting to think along those lines.

So there’s no beatmatching or anything technical like that in the mix as I don’t even think I knew what beatmatching was at that…but there’s some great tracks on it man.

Well worth a listen I think, sound quality is a bit suspect.  I think I did this on some old (then new) Numark CDJ’s or something like

There’s a couple of others I did which are more down-tempo including some Arabic ones and so if you want to hear em’ let me know man and I’ll try to upload them.

Anyway give it a listen/download!

Sorry man, I can’t remember the tracklist but I can tell you there’s lots of Talvin Singh on it!

Ironically, staying on the “Birth” theme, this mixxtape probably signalled my birth as a dancefloor DJ cause everybody I gave it to (on CD in those raved on about it for ages!
