This week’s selected selectas serve up three courses of house, global funk, and apocalyptic bass…

Loopus Amadeus

Loopus Amadeus

Mr Loopus sent us this mix which is a bit of a promo for his forthcoming EP:

the release is on Dubnoir Music and is scheduled for release in Februay(haven’t ironed out an exact date yet with label). Anyways, is titled as “El Lobo” and will be heavy latin/tribal themed and will have guest remixes by couple guys who just released on Discobelle records. Can’t tell you who just yet because we are trying to keep that on the low. Jeez, can’t think of much more to say so here you go

This starts out as the perfect dawn mix for me. Beginning with some hypnotic, minimal pre-dawn disco house, it gets more chunky as the mix goes on and the world lights up, with the fist sunlight hitting you about half way through… Then time starts running backwards and we go back into darker territory as we get to the end of the mix. Check Loopus’ tune No Mejor, from the EP, at 30 minutes in

The Gaff

The Gaff mixtape cover

Organic, funky global beats & breaks, heavy on the afro & balkan sounds…

This Mix was recorded LIVE for my show at Fortune Sound in Vancouver, Dec.10th 2010
I spent a week listening through records in my collection and ripping them, I also used a few tunes that are only available digitally.
It was performed in one take using: Scratch Live, 2 turntables, the Rane TTM57 mixer and 2 Novation ‘DIcers’.
It’s focus is on tribal rhythms which incorporate afro/latin/funk & swing styles, as well as newly produced music inspired by these styles.
I hope you’ll all enjoy listening to this mix as much as I enjoyed performing it.
