One of the Ep’s of the year, this is Transnational Future Bass that is presently unrivalled and totally unique!

dÉbruit – ‘Şiş Sürpriz’ EP Preview [Civil Music] by takako.music

You need to catch this band LIVE too, just watch this:

Here’s the Press Release:

When French producer dÉbruit relocated to London, it was just the start of a journey that would take him much further east than Hackney. dEbruit explains; “I lived in a Turkish neighbourhood in London and my productions are always a result of curiosity over the sounds and people around me. I wanted to learn more and try something with Turkish music and instruments so I travelled to Turkey in October, and I’m so glad I did.”

The end results of dÉbruit’s travels are the four painstakingly crafted tracks of Şiş Sürpriz (which translates as Skewer Surprise). Traditional Turkish folk instruments are coupled with modern, synthetic sounds on an EP that’s full of eastern promise. Opener Accordé Don combines accordion and darbuka drums (a kind of goblet drum) with “bump-hop” beats, whilst Turkish Ish features zurna flutes, talkbox effects and scything synths. Mezdé’s bass heavy,low-slung bounce deploys the string sounds of the kabak kemane – a violin-like instrument originating from Southeastern Turkey – with darbuka and davul drums. Zurna flutes and synths return on the slo-mo, chopped and screwed digi-funk of Lil Zurna.

Born Xavier Thomas and raised in Brittany, France, dÉbruit’s name is an amalgamation of the French words debris (broken glass) and bruit (noise). His boundary-smashing, genreswerving style deliberately veers towards the chaotic – “I like when electronic music and instruments lose control of what they’re meant to do”, he adds.

Şiş Sürpriz is the third in dÉbruit’s trilogy of EPs which began with futuristic electro hip-hop workout Let’s Post Funk featuring Jamie Woon and Om’Mas Keith, and was followed by 2010’s African highlife inspired Spatio Temporel. The trio of releases all feature 3-D artwork by German designer Rainbowmonkey, and 3-D glasses are also included for your viewing pleasure.

dÉbruit is currently crafting a debut album based around trips to West Africa and recordings with the region’s indigenous musicians and traditional instruments. dÉbruit has also been honing his live show which now incorporates a three-piece band, thumb pianos, African drums, highlife guitar, talk box and more, all accompanied by live visuals from Rainbowmonkey. The new and improved live experience will be unveiled at the dates below and dÉbruit’s album is due out later this year.

Dubstep Monday

Stone Forest

Not posted in a little while but i am back with some tunes I have been enjoying a lot over the past few weeks. A mixture of releases and dubplates, plus a free tune from new guy Maxii.

Ghostpoet – Survive it (Quest remix)

Quest – mesmerising as usual. And right off the bat I broke the rules and posted a tune that isn’t Dubstep (only 100bpm), but really this one is too good not to share. Out now on Giles Peterson’s Label ‘Brownswood’, along with a Koreless remix and and rework ft. Roots Manuva. Get them all here.

Silkie – It’s Late

Silkie has a new EP out on Deep Medi, City Limits Vol. 1.6 – 1.8. Silkie can’t do any wrong in my eyes, here is the upbeat first track. Also the new album City Limits Vol. 2 will be released on June 27th, which I’m very excited about to say the least. Incidentally it will feature one of the dubplates I posted here a little while ago, that bassline will be mindblowing from a 320. Meanwhile this EP is available now, from here.

Maxii – Mermaid

Introducing Maxii. Bedroom producer making some big sounds. 130 bpm Mermaid has a tropical feeling, with nice progressive synths. One for the summer. And his free track ‘Doppler Effect’ is a darker voyage into trance inspired dubstep, make sure you hold on for the second drop. More please!

Download ‘Doppler Effect’ here.

Sukh Knight, Mensah & Squarewave – Quad Bikes

Massive tune here from some of Dubstep’s finest, guaranteed to get any rave bouncing. Out on Hench and available from Beatport.

Jess Mills – Vultures (MJ Cole Remix)

Beautiful remix from MJ Cole of singer Jess Mills, who has also worked with Breakage. FACT magazine have it available to download from their soundcloud – the link is in this post.

Dubplate section, sorry about any chatter on the tracks – these are fresh.

Hatcha & Lost – Al Barsha

Big tune!

Joy O – Sicko Cell

Joy Orbison, who now shortens his name to Joy O, with another super illusive tune. This and GR Etiquette need to come out.

VIDEO/DOWNLOAD: Joker Vs. Slim Thug – The Vision (DJ Cable Dubstep Refix)

It’s good to be in good with good people. Cable and I have been building for quite some time, and I get my hands on things from this DMC 3x co-champ on the early tip. His output has slowed a bit (perhaps because he’s been Yasmin’s DJ on Chase and Status’ tour?), but he’s been mangling releases on the Serato video mixer.

This blend hit my inbox a couple days ago, and he asked me to bless the kind people of Generation Bass with it. You also get a download link for the audio if you look underneath the youtube player.

Lately, I’ve been gravitating back towards what got me into music in the first place, the earthy, authentic, cultured sublime tones of more traditional Transnational Roots music.  So when this dropped into my inbox I started to salivate at the mouth cause I’ve always loved Peruvian music.

To be met with an e-mail that said that this album contains “some of the most important Afro-Peruvian recordings of all time” really excited me, just as much as the next big club thang!

Sometimes, these kinds of albums contain an insight into an important part of the musical history of a nation. They also tell tales of people’s lives, often factual and not just fiction and that reality is often what really appeals to me. I am not an authority on Peruvian music and neither do I pretend to be but to me this album ticks all the boxes for a classic compilation.

Here’s the PR:

Afro-Peruvian music is one of the most elusive genres in the world.  It’s practically unheard outside the borders of Peru, and the people there are even unsure of many aspects of its history.  The roots of this music date back to the mid 1500s, but over time Afro-Peruvian culture and its music faded.  From the mid 1950s through the 1970s, Peruvian labels such as El Virrey, IEMPSA, and Odeon supported an Afro-Peruvian revival with the release of hundreds of albums.

The Rhythms of Black Peru is a collection of some of the most important Afro-Peruvian recordings of all time that is over a year and half in the making.  Many of the tracks were discovered after digging for records in a run-down garage located in central Lima last April.  This compilation includes prolific figures in Afro-Peruvian culture such as Nicomedes Santa Cruz, Chabuca Granda, and Zambo Cavero.  This hand numbered vinyl-only compilation is the perfect introduction to this percussion driven fusion of African rhythms and Latin melodies. As always, each LP is hand assembled in our facilities for quality control.  Every copy comes in a re-sealable dust bag and includes a HQ MP3 download card for the entire album.

Free track:

Ruperta – Eva Ayllon

We’re so excited about this release that we’ve launched a dedicated blog for it.  There we will share stories, photos and videos of our trip to Lima, as well as LP cover scans, sound clips, historical information, and more.  You can head over to www.rhythmsofblackperu.com

right now to hear samples of all the music on this compilation and read more about the history of Afro-Peruvian music.

A Moombahton Round-UP!! Originals and Refixes.

It has been a pretty steady stream of MoombahHEADS taking their skills into their studios and dropping their own brand of Moombah to a thirsty mob of loyal followers.  Most are edits of course, and it’s been debated as too how saturated it has gotten.  Some of these edits however stand-OUT out of pure charisma and the originals are quickly getting noticed!  With the obvious heads like H&M, Nada, Dillon Francis, Melo, Orion, Estrada and Guapo Feo (To name a few) aggressively hustling to fill up your playlists with fresh beats, its obvious its not enough and young aspiring producers are taking note.  Here’s a blend of originals and refixes, that are making their rounds. I can’t wait to hear more!

Maybe holler at one of your hommies before calling yourself or your production outfit something like babySTEPS, but I will admit the tune these guys present here is pure fire.  Cuban Links, The Beatnuts and Big Pun get re-rattled into some heavy Moombahton totally changing up the original.

Really phat mixdown in this tune, and not quite sure how much of it is a remix as opposed to it being simply and edit. However this is crisp and sure to hype a crowd. Dutch and chip tune styles that’s bangin’!!

[soundcloud url=”http://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/15881274″ params=”show_comments=true&auto_play=false&color=ff7700″ width=”100%” height=”81″ ]

Neki’s been causing quite a stir with his edits as far as doing an official refix for Man Recordings that’s free for the taking.  Get ready for some Deutsch Moombah.

[soundcloud url=”http://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/15603955″ params=”show_comments=true&auto_play=false&color=ff7700″ width=”100%” height=”81″ ]

Even though the mixdown on this jam could be tighter it’s still straight up Moombahsoul sex! Let this one explode inside your ear. I need to get a copy of this.

[soundcloud url=”http://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/15857332″ params=”show_comments=true&auto_play=false&color=ff7700″ width=”100%” height=”81″ ]

Doc Adam is one crafty guy his edits come in abundance but one of my FAVES is this brilliant re-work of Greatful Dead’s ‘Fire on the Mountain’… Poolside riddims for the summer!

[soundcloud url=”http://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/14082427″ params=”show_comments=true&auto_play=false&color=ff7700″ width=”100%” height=”81″ ]

Dave Nada threw this up on his tumblr a minute ago and naturally it should get talked about here.  A heavy rework bringing in some dutty bass riff and banging appeal. It takes a minute to get going, but the drop is worth it.  Wait for it!

[soundcloud url=”http://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/15813545″ params=”show_comments=true&auto_play=false&color=ff7700″ width=”100%” height=”81″ ]

This is one of the FEW up-and coming cats that’s hustling original Moombahton material, Elonious with his Moombahstep style that’s fresh. Get inspired, as much as we enjoy hearing edits all day long…

[soundcloud url=”http://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/15015202″ params=”show_comments=true&auto_play=false&color=ff7700″ width=”100%” height=”81″ ]

Most recently Guapo Feo dropped this fresh track on his free OG SERIES VOL  2 EP which also featured beats by Dj Orion, download the EP and go scare some people and make then wile out to this!

[soundcloud url=”http://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/13459808″ params=”show_comments=true&auto_play=false&color=ff7700″ width=”100%” height=”81″ ]

Ben Tactic one half of Tactic just dropped this gem on his SUPREMO ep available for sale through Juno. This rola has a nice and rich B-more-ish bounce with cheery vocals sampled from some young kids singing in Portuguese.  Check out the rest of the EP, its hot!

[soundcloud url=”http://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/14629027″ params=”show_comments=true&auto_play=false&color=ff7700″ width=”100%” height=”81″ ]

Last but not least, one man everyone in the Moombah game should fear is Don Javier Estrada. With a steady and aggressive production output coming out his studio there’s no end to his MADNESS. I mean he just dropped a free EP like last week and now this???  It don’t stop!!

[soundcloud url=”http://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/15292965″ params=”show_comments=true&auto_play=false&color=ff7700″ width=”100%” height=”81″ ]

And big ups to dj Umb for letting me post on Generation Bass, I’m super stoked to be part of the fam.  Keep making revolutionary dance music and get noticed!  Hopefully by US first 😉
