The sticky hot weather is here and Moombahton is the buzzword of the summer for 2011. With the word slowly being filtered into peoples vocabulary from Skrillex’s official stamp on the sound, to dudes like Bro Safari making hybrid versions of Moombah, and mentions in Mixmag it’s fast getting out of control. This is kind of like a top ten+ at the minute as producers step up the overall quality of their tunes from originality to air-tight mixdowns, and more on the heavier side this time around. But regardless, these are the hottest tracks and edits of the minute, act like you know!
A Tribe Called Red embracing their Moombahton! But they’re no strangers to the sound. With nights like Electric Pow Wow in Ottawa they are true warriors in the world of Global Bass Music. Needs more cowbell guys.
Aylen is reliable, no doubt. ‘The Rapture’ pushes some emotional aspects of moombahton while keeping her dirty. Is Moombahton a she? I sure hope so.
If there’s ever a too many dicks on the dance floor situation, one fast way to cure that is Aylen’s Moombahcore refix of ‘Macarena’. This tune is just hype, while it seems like Aylen is taking the piss out of this track, I assure he’s not, a bit cheeky, and a little unbelievable and it works.
Extreme HIGH ROTATION ALERT: Dillon Francis offering up a free remix of CSS “Hit’s me like a rock”. Bubblin’ , fun riddims for days.
Bro Safari well knows for his dubstep monstrosities, but also greatly knows as Knick from drum & bass outfit Evol Intent and one half of Ludachrist. Moombahton with a futuristic approach with raw elements of d&b, dubstep and out of this world sounds! Teamed up with Le Doom and released as a sampler on El Cuco Recordings. Expect an official release from Bro Safari, Le Doom and the El Cuco fam that will have you shelling out your wallet.
Plus another one! Bro Safari and Nerd Rage… This track has some serious bounce. Makes people giggle.
Freaky Phillip has been pumping out heat lately! Really feeling the percussive elements in this track, clearly one of his best. Turn this one up!
Luny P is another cat with a nice roster of edits and should probably be a go to source for some edits just before the weekend. I may just have increased his workload by saying that. Going to smooth it out with this edit of SMD’s hit ‘Cruel Intentions’ should have fans singing at the top of their lungs.
Yes, there’s a Dillon Francis remix of this tune, but I find this Luny P also bangs this one out nicely. It’s all about how you use that Dutch siren and make it your own. Very nicely done.
Oh shit! What would a Moombahton round-up be without a Neki Edit? Neki’s 100th edit for you hungry Moombah freaks. Crookers’ “Dr. Gonzo” gets crunched, slowed, and Moombahtonized.
So it’s more than a top 10, but whatever. When you can turn it up to 11 just do it. Simply put, too many good tunes and not enough holes in my head to listen to it all. Going to wrap it up with two hits from Starfoxx from Chicago… I first found this guy way back searching for juke tunes on SoundCloud and much like his juke, his moombah does not disappoint. Pull up!
