CAIRO LIBERATION FRONT

clf-bg-wide

Cairo Liberation Front (CLF) is the new wave of Egyptian wedding rave. Their approach on the electro chaabi sound has been featured in New York Times, The Guardian, Afropop Worldwide and Okay Africa. Maybe you’ve seen them perform at festivals as Amsterdam Dance Event, Dour and Best Kept Secret or in underground clubs throughout Europe.

CLF promotes the sonic Arabic revolution. Electro cha3bi comes from the popular neighborhoods of Cairo. Producers use cracked software; combine American hip-hop, eurohouse and Arabic rhythms. Like Omar Souleyman meeting Sean Paul and Aphex Twin at a wedding party. It has the live power of punk rock shows and early house parties.

In their first year CLF produced mixtapes that premiered at WDR (German national radio), The Quietus, The Guardian and leading world music blogs like Afropop Worldwide, Generation Bass and Okay Africa. On stage Cairo Liberation Front performs with one DJ and one MC. Sometimes they are joined by belly dancers and other friends. The collective is known for their highly energetic live performances. In their first year they played more then 40 times in whole Europe, from underground clubs to big festivals.

NAZAR

1939873_10203623225802196_188106892557282002_n

A new name to watch in the Kuduro world!

“Rough Kuduro” is his invention – a brutal, dark & sinister kind of Justice meets an Industrial Kuduro sound with experimental drums which remind us of dark techno, breakcore and, of course, Munchi’s iconic skullbass genre!

As Nazar explains…

”Rough Kuduro was to give another narrative – more politically – to our genuine music style called Kuduro. By exploring rawness and the extreme violence of the 27-year Angolan civil war.”

BIO:

I’m 21 year-old Angolan and Belgian producer, London-based, with the main purpose of exploring rawness and the extreme violence of the 27-year Angolan civil war.

Angola is known musically for its Kuduro – genre created and widely celebrated to make us forget our dark and violent past. But my motivation is definitely the opposite. Since I’ve started making music, I’ve obsessively looked after ways to make us remember those dystopian years. Rough Kuduro is the result of that. I think there’s still so much to explore.

My quest is for a brutal – yet imperfect but honest – sound.

SARANTIS

10252048_10152440029185148_5404012088622021324_n

Sarantis has been one of our favourite producers since we started this blog and we’re stoked that he decided to join our hallowed Artists Hall of Fame!

Sarantis is from Leeds has been making beats since 2002. He started with a grime release in 2005, featuring local talent Tauraus on vocals, establishing Senseless Records and following with a grimey dancehall /dubstep second release, these kind of mash ups would become a signature of trax to come by Sarantis, with mighty Warrior Queen on the vocals. More than money featuring Warrior Queen got a lot of support from djs such as Skream, Mary Anne Hobbes, Starkey, and Taso who put it in his Fabric set.

After a break for a couple of years Sarantis came back with a new sound but without forgetting his past making 160 bpm trax.

Releases on Senseless Records, Loose Squares, Modern Ruin, Booty Call followed based around the same Chicago influenced sound, but also grime and dancehall tracks came with it.

Still on the dancehall, grime and rap sound, there will be feature collaborations coming out with artists as Gala P, Crawler, and Dialect. Other vocalists Sarantis has worked with are Parly B, Dialect, Bunnington Judah, Bongo Chilli, and he has released on Black Acre, Terminal Dusk labels as well. He has support from a lot of DJs all over the world.

TILHA

Tilha_n

Tilha, aka Diogo Costa is another young and exciting producer from the Portuguese New Wave.

He adopts a Future Tarraxo style, which you’ll be hearing a lot more about in the future. Future Tarraxo is a style that we believe that has started to evolve from Tarraxo but with a focus more towards futuristic space oriented atmospheres, explorations and fantasies. Think of it as a Bladerunner Tarraxo Symphony! A style taking much from the late 70’s and early 80’s yet managing to sound so futuristic!

Tilha’s productions are simple & repetitive yet hypnotic, raw yet realized. His sounds are melodic, haunting, Gothic and fascinating.

He is such a novice to the production game that he only sent us self-mastered MP3 files and that’s what you get here. Maybe we’ll do a fully mastered official release in due course but for now soak in the atmosphere and totally captivating spirit of Future Tarraxo and be warned, there’s a load more of it to come!
