So we’re gonna be trawling through our archives to find what we consider to be some of our classic posts, which should highlight just how influential we might have been in the past 4 years!!

Heartbreak has come a long way from the days when he would pester me to blog his stuff to today when he is officially remixing some of the biggest dj’s in the world, like Skrillex.

Heartbreak always had a hunger, passion, drive and a burning desire to make it to the top league and he is surely on his way there now.

Before we go on to the original classic post, here’s what I said more recently about this track when I did the MOOMBAHTONISTA post on Heartbreak.

Excerpt from The Moombahtonista:

Like the time when Munchi was raving on to me about “King Kong” and then Heartbreak sent it to me to blog exclusively back in the day.  I got to be honest, I don’t think I gave Heartbreak any confidence in that track, cause I think I just said to him, yeah man it’s ok but not as good as “Firepower” loool.

However, after I played it out, that is when I realized it’s full potential as an absolute monsta’ and its status as a Moombahcore classic.  The same goes with his Moombahsoul output, when you play that shit out, it rocks and that is when it makes sense.  It didn’t make full sense when he initially sent it to me and I just played it on my I-Pod and in my car.

By playing his stuff out, you truly appreciate what a mega producer he is.

“King Kong” is as funky as hell man.   It was a huge revelation when it first came out, although I said it was ok, I knew deep inside of me it was special, cause I hadn’t heard shit like that before and I couldn’t understand it.

I understood “Firepower” straight away cause it hits you directly.  But the true potential of “King Kong” took some time to comprehend cause it did not sound like Firepower and it doesn’t hit you until you play it out!!!!

But that’s like most of the stuff I hold dear to me, sometimes, at first, I’m not sure about it but as time passes, it becomes some of my favourite stuff.

Generation Bass Classic Post – 30th November 2010

The pic above, before you hear this track!

You know they say this town ain’t big enough for the two of dem, well, in H & M’s (HEARTBREAK & MUNCHI) case, man it is.

Heartbreak is painting the town red with Monsieur Munchi and this DEADLY duo just upped the stakes, by trying to out do each other, in the same game with:

BUT today, this is ALL about the HEARTBREAK kid man!

You know not much is known about this ENIGMA but legend has it that he proved to be an uncontrollable kid to his parents.  In the end he ran away after continous grounding by them for constantly finding stray pussy in his room.

The rumour goes that he continued to live out his existence as a FERAL child. Having survived in the wild on his own with no-one but a Munchi for company (lol..this is a joke btw….thought I better mention it, just in case) he excelled at music production and became one of the leading lights on the Moombahton scene, which led him back to joining civilization.

But his feral habits would not die and now, he is co-leading the way on the Moombahcore score to DRAMATIC and spell-binding effect!

Here is a choon to knock out even KING f***in’ KONG!

This is the sort of stuff you can expect from the forthcoming MOOMBAHCORE album on Generation Bass Digital by HEARTBREAK and the unmentionable ONE (lol).

Bet you got your wallets out already, and are salivating at the mouth and have probably come in your pants too, at this juicy and delicious prospect.

Well just imagine too, if Scarlett Johansson joins in the action in a menage a trois and does a guest vocal on a track.  You might just shiit yourself with xcitement.

NUFF said, (in a scouse accent!) calm “the f**K” down!!!

So we’re gonna be trawling through our archives to find what we consider to be some of our classic posts, which should highlight just how influential we might have been in the past 4 years!!

I think the first time ever the 3ball MTY dudes appeared on the net/blogosphere.  Of course Toy Selelctah was the dude behind introducing the 3ball sound to peeps like Mad Decent and to our goodselves.

Of course they have now been signed to a major in South America, Universal and apparently Diplo says he s gonna use 3ball as source of inspiration for a Beyonce track he is working on!

See the original post HERE

Generation Bass Classic Post: 9th August 2010

This just came in right now from my good brother Toy Selectah and so I just had to get it up right nowww, know what I’m sayin’!

Plus, it’s only Generation Bass and Mad Decent who have got the exclusive to this and each with a different free track to give-away 🙂

Here’s what Toy has to say:

We are releasing today the first proper 3Ball MTY Free EP! Also we got an Exclusive Track for Generation Bass!

• 3 Ball MTY Crew:

The Tribal Guarachero Crew from Monterrey Mexico is  Erick Rincón (16 ), Sheeqo Beat (18) and Dj Otto (18).

This is their first proper release.  They have tons of music out there but this is the first time they put together something as an official release.

These Kids have been working on Official Remixes for some important labels such as Mad Decent, Man Recordings, Pollinate Records and Sones del Mexside.

They are working now on some new music and a Live Act as “3BALL MTY”.

I have not heard the EP yet but I am familiar with the dudes behind 3Ball MTy and of course Toy is behind it and so it reeeeks of QUALITY!

Plus grab this free tune Xclusive to Generation Bass.  Man I almost cringed when I saw this was a Daft Punk remix.  How many more do we…

BUT I almost passed out when I heard it cause it sounds so fresh, original and is awesome and so all is forgiven 🙂

Get on da Tribal Technologic Guarachero, u Daft Punk!

Daft Punk – Technologic (Sheeqo Beat remix)

So we’re gonna be trawling through our archives to find what we consider to be some of our classic posts, which should highlight just how influential we might have been in the past 4 years!!

It was Munchi’s birthday over the weekend and so a Happy Belated Birthday from all of us at Team GB 🙂

The following extract is is taken from The Moombahtonista Post on Munchi, which we did more recently and is yet another classic post but we’ll revisit that one later.

This Classic Post today is about the one we did on 14 July 2010 but I felt that the stuff I said on The Munchi Moombahtonisa is totally relevant for this post as an intro:

On July 14th 2010, all HELL broke loose.

I heard “FIREPOWER”!

I was blogging Datsik a lot in those days and also as far back as in 2009, when not many really knew who Datsik was. I had the pleasure of opening for Datsik in my home city in Birmingham in March 2010. So were were blogging about him furiously. I had no idea Munchi was also listening to Datsik. I knew he was into Burial and Loefah and those dudes but I had no idea he was into the more aggressive stuff.  So it was a huge surprise when I heard his Datsik edit of “Firepower”.

Man it BLEW MY MIND!!!

I was about the 8th person to hear it on his soundcloud and I just said:

“fuuuuuuuuuuckkkkkk!……..NEXT LEVEL SHIIT!…The apprentice becomes a MASTER!”

I immediately knew then something big & new had been borne. It was like NOTHING I had ever heard before and the aggressiveness of it also surprised me, cause we weren’t used to this side of Munchi.

So I thought I got to do a blog of this track and sensationalize so that the world hears it, cause the world needs to hear it!!!!

So what better way to draw attention to it than to say, “Say Hello 2 The Next Diplo”!

Julianne Escobedeo Shepherd who did the the ORIGINAL online article on the Birth of Moombahton in the The Fader picked up on it from our blog and wrote THIS and the rest is history.

The “Firepower” track was for “me”, the moment when I saw Genius in Munchi and I then became one of his staunchest supporters. Up until that moment, the kid was showing a lot of PROMISE but “Firepower” changed all of that and showed us the work of a GENIUS!  He had started on his journey to becoming a bona fide LEGEND.

“Firepower” had acted as a major catalyst for the Moombahton movement. When I heard the track I could see back then the vision Munchi had created for the future of this Moombahton movement. He had given it mouth 2 mouth resuscitation and had breathed new life into it.

All the Dubstep & Drumstep heads who were visiting our blog started to get into it and we started seeing a flow of Moombahcore edits. Without “Firepower”, I doubt we’d be as far advanced as we are with the movement today. It opened up the doors to a whole new world for a broad range of people.

[Extract from The Original Moombahtonista – Munchi]

See the Original 14 July 2010 post here but it is also reproduced below!

Generation Bass Classic Post – 14 July 2010:

You already know about our young prodigy, 17 year old Munchi.  We were one of the first blogs to cover him after he came to us with a vault full of gems.

I am now convinced after hearing his latest track/re-fix/mash up, whateva you wanna call it, that he will be the next Super Shit Hottt Producer, the next Diplo!

In fact I would go as far as to say that I think, in time, he might even be better than Diplo (sorry Diplo, we really love you mate but our Munchi’s a little bit special)!

Listen to this killa and I dare you to tell me that I’m far off the mark or just plain stupid and wrong ( somebody, quite influential, well let’s say a big fish in a very small pond, already told me that..ahahha but do I give a f***, No I f****** don’t lmao..boohoo to him) !

Datsik – Firepower (Munchi Moombahcore Rmx) by Munchi

So we’re gonna be trawling through our archives to find what we consider to be some of our classic posts, which should highlight just how influential we might have been in the past 4 years!!

Here is the second of such posts, the day when we introduced Die Antwoord to the wider blogosphere world and general public, before most of the world had even heard of these peeps!

We did this back in September 2009 and CLICK HERE to see the original post but it is reproduced below.

We know what happened next, the word got out and they were signed to Interscope and a bunch of producers jumped on them including Diplo.

And here’s what happened when I met them back in 2010:

Sexxy Saturday Cumbia – riTmo de POrro y Mas

A little gem surfaced from the deep waters of the web and revealed itself to me. It is a little four track EP called riTmo de POrro from Buenos Aires native Damo Naimad. It features true Afro-Colombian cumbia rhythms with delay effects, chilled haunting horns and beautiful Colombian vocalist Totó la Momposina. If you haven’t checked it out yet then you’re in for a treat, if you have then you’re in for a treat again.

Taking a turn to rebajada (chopped and screwed) Randy Salazar Jr. salutes democracy in Mexico with his new cumbia track just in time for the elections.

[soundcloud url=”″ iframe=”true” /]

I’m not ready to speed it up yet. I also have what normally is a high-energy cumbia “Fiesta Cumbiambera”. Papi Perez edited this rebajada for us.

[soundcloud url=”″ iframe=”true” /]

Turbo Sonidero Futuristico dropped this off to me earlier. He produced it a couple of years ago according to his computer and didn’t release it until now. I think he thought it was a bit weird for the time. But considering the rest of us brought the weirdness level up it now fits in quite well.

[soundcloud url=”″ iframe=”true” /]

When it comes to blending hip hop with old school global cumbia DJ Neber is among my favorites. He has mad scratching skills and isn’t afraid to show it. Also he matches the hip hop beats so very well that it brings a whole new life to the track.

[soundcloud url=”″ iframe=”true” /]

[soundcloud url=”″ iframe=”true” /]

Here is a bit of his scratching and live flow. I think I actually might have downloaded most if not all of his tracks on SoundCloud.

[soundcloud url=”″ iframe=”true” /]

It’s always a pleasure to hear more from Colombian artist Bleepolar. He’s back at it with his remix of Pernett’s “La Cumbia Continental”. This is definitely featuring the signature cumbia beats of Bleepolar.

[soundcloud url=”″ iframe=”true” /]

A beautiful cumbia improvisation comes from Arun y la Cumbia (Arun Ruz) in this piece. Featuring vocals by Deva Baumbach. It truly is quite beautiful, quite intoxicating and quite original. I’m a sucker for improvisation, especially with live instrumentation or live playing. The electric piano solo is really nice done in this one.

[soundcloud url=”″ iframe=”true” /]

“Cumbia Sammy (Nut Brown Cumbia)” is off of Piper Street Sounds new really awesome album “Cumbia de la Piedmont.” It’s a unique blend of digital drum programming, synth bass, synth leads and nylon string guitar playing. It shows the diverse talents of Atlanta producer Matthew Mansfield. And I beg of you to check out the album as soon as you can if you haven’t yet. It’s really exciting.

[soundcloud url=”″ iframe=”true” /]

One song I thought I could happily live without ever having to hear again is “Pose” by Daddy Yankee. You know what I mean? Those top 40 tracks that are overplayed everywhere. It’s like with children watching the same animated movie 20-30 times a day without growing tired, it seems the top 40 clubbers have the same mentality. It’s hard for me to post anything like that here but this time I make an exception. I don’t know what possessed Sonidos Profundos to decide that he should make a remix of “Pose,” but to be honest as hard as it is for me to say, I am glad he did. It really sounds great when it has that unique Sonidos Profundos touch.

[soundcloud url=”″ iframe=”true” /]

Now with rock en Español or electro pop I’m more inclined to be down with and normally am. Stereo Revuelta does justice with his awesome cumbia edit of “Deja Te Conecto” by Zoe. Adding some wobbles, cumbia rhythms and heavier bass makes for nice edit for the cumbia dance floor.

[soundcloud url=”″ iframe=”true” /]

Copia Doble Systema rarely needs any help promoting their new tracks. This week is no exception. Promoting the apparently strong dancehall scene in Denmark they remixed Copenhagen resident dancehall team Eager and Stunn’s “Kugledans.” I checked out the original track too, both are awesome.

[soundcloud url=”″ iframe=”true” /]

Urban World Records and Al Lindrum have been hard at work this past year compiling a remix album of the flamenco infused with urban modernization group Ojos De Brujo. The remix album consists of 13 remixes from various diverse producers and DJ’s.  The remixes range from dub-step to DnB to dancehall to cumbia all the way to breaks. Here I will post the last track on the album, a cumbia remix from Empresarios of the song “Ventilaor R-80.” It’s also exciting to have a new Empresarios digital cumbia to share here.

[soundcloud url=”″ iframe=”true” /]

Last up I have an older one from DJ Rüstico. It’s a mashup of Cumbia mundial and Taliban del Amor. It’s really dope and I feel a strong need to post it here.

Peace mis cumbieros

Sexxy Saturday Cumbia – Bastard World Police

I can’t express with words how much I despise election years but I will sure as hell try to. They are full of mind games and down right trickery. Obama hits the news the past few weeks with small silly things to promote his re-election. First we have the interview where he cleverly shows support for individual states to allow homosexuals to marry. A trick of course because he didn’t take any action towards making laws protecting this statement nor does it change the fact that government will still meddle in our own relationship affairs. How about this sir “liberal”, stay the fuck out of our business. State government, federal government, city government, the hell to all of you. Because what the hell does the government have to do with people falling in love and deciding to marry? So while looking pleasant and tolerant and singing Al Green well just proves one thing, he’s just another condescending asshole like the rest but he carries himself well. And now this whole immigrant thing is just another attempt to be re-elected. Instead of creating new policies against crony-capitalism (corporatism) with fear that if he does so he’ll of course be cut off from the wealth that’s promised to him for the rest of his life, he tells us that not ALL immigrant children will be deported, that is the ones he sees fit and AMERICAN enough to stay. How about this Mr. “liberal”, don’t deport children. Simple policy to say the least, don’t deport children who grew up in the States and don’t know a thing about their country of birth. Thanks for choosing who is worthy to stay though. That’s really nice of you. For all that wish to argue my points I say do so but for your sake don’t look at any of the pictures of the innocent children he’s slaughtered with his drone attacks in recent months. Those hard facts and images will make your support for the “liberal” appear weak and of poor choice. He’s just as bad or worse than Nixon and Bush, worse because he supports and enforces a KILL list of people in other countries he feels should die by American hands, oh uh I mean American drones. Drones because why should we endanger our lives? We are the corrupt world police and we can’t even disguise it anymore. Fuck you Obama as you enter the ranks of Franco and Stalin.

The good thing is that the illusion of choice is becoming less of an illusion as time goes by. But I’ll hand it to the bastards for still trying to fool the lot of us.

Here’s hoping I don’t get on a kill list or become a part of the American Dream of indefinite detention.

In attempt to switch things to cumbia I do so successfully with a chilled down new remix of Randy Salazar’s nu cumbia jam Archipielago by his mate Altz. Altz makes this the newest in a line of the growing Japanese cumbia scene.

[soundcloud url=”″ iframe=”true” /]

Pa Kongal returns here with yet another nu cumbia explorative track. When I think of nu cumbia this is the sound that first comes to mind.

[soundcloud url=”″ iframe=”true” /]

Snow Balderas and Stereo Reveulta joined forces with a new cumbia Body Moving mashup. From beginning to end it is filled with hard-hitting head-bobbing energy.

[soundcloud url=”″ iframe=”true” /]

For some really digital cumbia you must look no further than the next track I have for you. It’s from DJ BIManCo.

[soundcloud url=”″ iframe=”true” /]

This next one is seriously dope. The bass is driving, the cumbia is deep, the sounds of digital madness.

[soundcloud url=”″ iframe=”true” /]

I’m a little late getting this next one here but it surely had to be done. Max le Daron brought this remix onto the scene about one month ago.

[soundcloud url=”″ iframe=”true” /]

Club De Baile CD’M is a new soundcloud account I stumbled upon recently. The tracks I found there are really very unique. This is a crazy cumbia mix for example.

[soundcloud url=”″ iframe=”true” /]

Here is another goodie from Club De Baile CD’M.

[soundcloud url=”″ iframe=”true” /]

Though the lates of Club De Baile CD’M is the funkiest of all.

[soundcloud url=”″ iframe=”true” /]

La Furia Con Lujuria puts their remixing skills to work on the Sonido Desconicido II Tropico Quasar remixes EP from Caballito.

[soundcloud url=”″ iframe=”true” /]

One must simply check out this edit by elmulato. The intro is awesome, the pacing and vibe throughout never loses it’s cool, and the psychedelic bits throughout make it an all round awesome track.

[soundcloud url=”″ iframe=”true” /]

Cumbia Cosmonauts new Tribal Amazonico EP is out from their first release with Chusma Records. With the EP comes two free downloads too. I’ll post the freebies here.

[soundcloud url=”″ iframe=”true” /]

[soundcloud url=”″ iframe=”true” /]

Albert DJ takes us on another journey into a classic from Lisandro Meza with his epic remix. I’ve already played this in a mix and it worked brilliantly.

[soundcloud url=”″ iframe=”true” /]

Switching gears I’ll take you now to a new digital cumbia from Andean Illicit. He’s claiming it’s just a preview but it sounds finished enough to me.

[soundcloud url=”″ iframe=”true” /]

Dudley Disco came out with a Calle 13 remix of their hit that actually never annoyed me so that’s cool and the reason why a cumbia remix of it works quite well for me too. Oh Atrevete is the hit I’m referring to.

[soundcloud url=”″ iframe=”true” /]

[email protected] hits us back with another remix. This time it’s of Dr. Dre’s ‘The Next Episode.’

[soundcloud url=”″ iframe=”true” /]

I love when Rafael Aragon releases a new cumbia track on the cloud. I’m always pleased with his flavor of sound. This time it’s a cumbia latin-arabia.

[soundcloud url=”″ iframe=”true” /]

I would go farther and say that the new one from La Tirana Caravana is also cumbia-step in nature. Nonetheless whatever you want to call it just call it good.

[soundcloud url=”″ iframe=”true” /]

I have another Lisandro Meza edit for the blog. This time it’s from Afrokumbe. This goes to show the diversity of nu cumbia. His is more of an electro cumbia edit.

[soundcloud url=”″ iframe=”true” /]

Arun y la Cumbia is not only an awesome name but he’s also an awesome nu cumbia producer. His new one is digital goodness. He says it isn’t finished because it needs mastering but honestly I cannot tell at all. It sounds great to me.

[soundcloud url=”″ iframe=”true” /]

Well it was my birthday this past week, my 31st to be exact. A couple of gifts came in the way of digital information. I’d like to share them with all of you.

The first is not cumbia but it is a digital salsa exploration of Moby and I thought maybe you’d dig it. Thanks to Don Juan Pachanga.

[soundcloud url=”″ iframe=”true” /]

The other comes from 3ball maestro Mr. Kanti W. He hit up some Eminem.

[soundcloud url=”″ iframe=”true” /]

I also released a microscopic EP if you will of a few tracks that I couldn’t fit into the new album I am working on. They all seemed to flow so I made up a theme. There are a couple cumbia tracks on it. Here is one maybe you can sink your teeth into.

[soundcloud url=”″ iframe=”true” /]

Oh I couldn’t possibly write a cumbia blog without talking a bit about Ondatropica’s new project. SoundWay Records makes it possible for legends of cumbia and new talent of today to produce an all new album. It will be out June 25th on SoundWay Records.

Here is the first single off of the album followed by a video teaser.

[soundcloud url=”″ iframe=”true” /]

Well it sure appears that it was a busy week. I can hardly tell anymore because I’m always in the middle of everything so it just happens and I collect.

Peace cumbieros!

Sexxy Saturday Cumbia – Working On Vacations

Vacationing has become a foreign concept to me. I often find myself saying I enjoy going on vacations but really I don’t honestly think that I do. For one thing I rarely go on one because I don’t have the time or ability. And when I do go on one it’s not really one at all. Instead it’s for work on a project or work in disguise. For example I head out to Las Vegas two or three times a year under the guise of a vacation. I say this because one requirement of mine is to have wifi access with my room because I bring a laptop. Why do I bring a laptop? To work. Yes to work in between moments of my “vacation”. So in reality all I do is move my body from one city to another and work around moments of leisure just as I do at my home office. Though one difference is I work a little less because in order to prepare for my “vacation” I set up my work for the week making it more easily executable. So basically the week before I work almost double the amount in order to make my work while on “vacation” less strenuous. I looked up the definition of “vacation” on Wikipedia and none of what is describes correlates with my vacation experiences. Therefore making the concept of simply stopping all actions of my daily life and going out travelling for pure fun something that I just know very little about.

It may appear that I am complaining but no quite the contrary. I don’t want to vacate my work. I like my work. I like to have work to do. I never cease to set up new future projects making it impossible for me to just stop. I can for a moment. But a week?! Good lord no! I have too many things scheduled and those too many things bring me joy. There’s joy in the stress and hard work of executing projects. This takes me back to my point I often bring up when discussing my love for New York City. It is a hustling and bustling fast moving city. Even the people walk faster than normal. Sure I like to relax and take it easy. Even New York is too fast for me. But I find peace in it still. I like to observe the hustle and bustle, I enjoy taking in the energy of the people around me, I’m the slowest person in New York, but I too find peace in movement. I love to work. When in Vegas I am normally working not only on my usual things but a convention or training session brought me to the city in the first place. I find time for fun in between the work, don’t get me wrong. I have an affinity for BlackJack, pool hopping, lovemaking, and the stage shows at night. But between I’m hard and happily at work.

The funny thing is to take a week off entirely with no access to my work would stress me out beyond belief. What kind of vacation would that be?

The sun is shining hard in the north and especially flippin hot in my city. I mean ridiculously hot! This makes for more time at pools when I’m not hiding in my dark home like a scorpion. For all the dj’s poolside Los Reyes De Milanga released their new cumbia remixes for and exclusive on Cassette Blog. These tunes are perfect for the summer.

[soundcloud url=”″ height=”200″ iframe=”true” /]

Caballito’s Bigote Sucio put his special touch on Sonido Desconocido’s Cumbia de la Cuesta del Nero. With it is the dope original video.

It’s been a while since I last had anything from Dash Selektor on here; it’s good to hear some nu cumbia from him. Here he is experimenting with cool original cumbia rhythms.

[soundcloud url=”″ iframe=”true” /]

Mapache DJ is a new face here dropping an awesome mashup mix. It’s short and sweet.

[soundcloud url=”″ iframe=”true” /]

[email protected] continues with his hard-hitting nu cumbia style on this new one. It is a new teaser of things to come.

[soundcloud url=”″ iframe=”true” /]

To slow things down I have Sonidos Profundos’ sly dubbed out style remix of Ace of Base.

[soundcloud url=”″ iframe=”true” /]

The darkness that is the Hijo de la Tanga sound is unique in all aspects. I love the minimalism and calmness. There’s a sort of spirituality behind it for me.

[soundcloud url=”″ iframe=”true” /]

Matthew Mansfield and I worked hard on a new collaborative effort. I played the guitar and keys and produced the original while Matt took over on bass, bandurria, and professional mastering. Also the last awesome touches were provided by Santiago Junca on congas. This was a fun experiment to show off our skills but also to promote the services Matt provides from his studio Piper Street Sound. He offers mastering, production and original bass lines. Feel free to hit him up if you would like some of the best original production work on your tracks.

[soundcloud url=”″ iframe=”true” /]

Sometimes it can be difficult to mash several genres into one track and keep it sounding cool dynamically. Dragao Style made such a production mixing together flawlessly.

[soundcloud url=”″ iframe=”true” /]

There’s something about this next one I really dig. Chica Andino produced this stripped down simple nu cumbia and it turned out really cool.

[soundcloud url=”″ iframe=”true” /]

Keeping on with things Andean I have some exciting new productions from Peruvian DJ Andean illicit. Rocking the Lima underground you’re sure to hear more from him in the coming years. I’ll be sure to post his work.

[soundcloud url=”″ iframe=”true” /]

Here are a couple dope old school chicha remix teasers.

[soundcloud url=”″ iframe=”true” /]

[soundcloud url=”″ iframe=”true” /]

I wrote up a review for Will Eede’s new mix Khuyay on my other blog. You can check it out here because I went deep into the vibe and it’s hard to re-write from that point of expression. It is another wonderfully spiritual mix with lots of hard work put into it.

[soundcloud url=”″ iframe=”true” /]

To continue with the new and very different mixes released this week I will dedicate this part of the post to them.

Up first is Piska Power. This mix features older and newer tracks. Starting with the very recent remix of Maga Bo’s new track by Chancha Via Circuito. In my opinion he made it much much better and more my taste. Also in the middle I’m happy to hear Pa Kongal’s refix of a track I sent him over a year ago. It’s a track from my friend’s old 70’s band Grupo Religion. The song is Corazon de mi Corazon.

[soundcloud url=”″ iframe=”true” /]

Den5hion went to a deep personal place with his new mix. Every tune on it is a production by Den5hion. I think I understand it well too. I can relate to the concept and wish to write more about it in the near future. This will be my first post with it.

[soundcloud url=”″ iframe=”true” /]

From Madrid KayGee put together an eclectic mix of old and new cumbia and dub. It turned out to be a good respectful showcase of the styles.

[soundcloud url=”″ iframe=”true” /]

Last week El Lobby Sound recorded his live set at La Fiesta Mundial de Cumbia. He features some of the usual all star suspects in this long but well mixed set.

[soundcloud url=”″ iframe=”true” /]

Something nice and deep comes from the Pa Changas collective this week too. Disco Movil Rumbatron put out this super chill cumbia dub mixtape.

Leaving the mixes behind I now take you to some cool free downloads from Makina. There are four remixes available for download. Touching on the world of the hipsters and bringing them to our cumbia side of things. These are fun.

Ending on an old school note check out this new remix from Wancho Villa of Arroz Con Coco.

[soundcloud url=”″ iframe=”true” /]

Even though that’s a good one to end it on I’m not really going to. Because this June marks Fiestas Pirata’s 2nd anniversary. These are good friends of mine in the nu cumbia scene. Remember back one year ago I posted a special Sexxy Saturday Cumbia all for them. I don’t normally promote parties on here due to it being an international blog and it would be like another one of the thousand invites you get on Facebook for events that are across the world, but this one time I will do it just for these guys.

Here was another massive blog for you. It looks like I won’t be slowing down in the near future much to my gratitude. No real “vacatation” coming up for me. Why would I want to do something silly like that?!

Sexxy Saturday Cumbia – Cumbia Without Borders

Being a U.S. citizen and being in close contact with a global politically and socially minded readership makes for interesting interactions. The interactions seem to often, not always, but often involve a moment where I feel like I’m being viewed as a enemy of the world. That’s a weird statement to make, I know but it is what it is. I wonder about this sometime because it seems the rest of the globe views Americans as single-minded nationalists. I argue against this idea by saying we were not all for George Bush, many protested the “wars”, many of us feel as though we are the terrorists, and many of us agree that we are more of a problem than a solution.

I was once again at a GOP convention last weekend in Phoenix that was held for the usual campaigning of congressmen, justices of the peace, and people trying to sell their books (with their delusions of knowing how to “fix” things). But really it was just another microscopic aspect of U.S. government where they were voting for delegates. I can go into what a delegate is but there’s absolutely no point in doing so, also I don’t want to bore you anymore than I may already be doing). I go to these things to infiltrate, to debate, and to watch the corruption in all its many forms (even on the microscopic level). To say the least I have fun at these events. Looking the ignorant “sheeple” in their eyes as they try to convince me there’s big danger out there without having any idea that they are the most dangerous of the dangers.

My point in addressing this whole issue is that I’ve found some clarity in it after all. In discussion the other night with a local bar/nightclub owner (the good kind), he made an interesting point. He has lived in other countries throughout Europe and we were discussing this issue that Europeans more than any other seem to question why we would allow someone/thing like George Bush to happen. He made a strong point after we both declared our similar experience of not liking our own country but when under attack from others suddenly we get a little defensive. He made the point that it’s because we truly claim to have a great country and are proud of our constitution and what it stands for. So as we toot our own horn why wouldn’t others look at all of our decisions and actions to be shared by a collective mind. We do do this I’m well aware being one who does it often. Though I wish to make a distinction. I don’t look at “my” country as a great example of how other countries should operate. I do like our constitution very much but the U.S. government doesn’t share my sentiment. That constitution is a waste of paper in the hands of the modern day United States. Written by enlightened deists now hijacked by the Christian Right and war mongering corporations.

So from now on if I come off as proud, imagine it’s 1776 and not 2012, that’s where my pride lays. The only good thing I can truly say proudly about this government is that I time and again loudly proclaim it to be fucked up and can do so without being arrested or killed for proclaiming so. At least so far.

And as I’ve said before somewhere and a few times, my parents just fucked here and were here nine months later. This is why and only why I’m American.

Now onto the cumbia where it doesn’t matter nor care where you come from or where you’re going. The international language, no not love, music, and more specifically nu cumbia.

Showing some Major Lazer love, Don Juan Pachanga came out with this dope cumbia edit of Get Free.

Man this Captain Cumbia vs Pedrolito soundclash competition keeps going strong. There are two weeks left of it, I don’t know what the winning prize is but they’re both committed to getting it. This is an awesome one from Captain Cumbia mashing Beastie Boys with OMFO. Captain Cumbia is officially (officially because I say so) the cumbia mashup master.

Albert DJ respects the classics with his remixes. He takes from different parts of the cumbia world and puts his own touch on them. This is what he did with Flor De Un Dia.

Not quite cumbia but with enough elements to post it here is the new Waxuma track. It’s well produced with interesting dub like delay going in and out of afrocumbe rhythms and elements of house.

Here is something quite original from Stereo Revuelta. Alongside Santa Leyenda Soul Ska, Stereo Revuelta he comes up with a unique sound I can’t quite put my finger on to label (which is always a good thing).

I posted a couple of weeks back the collaboration between Cabeza’s Cherman and Qechuaboi. To add to their catalogue Cherman uploaded their latest digital cumbia showcasing each other’s unique contribution to the nu cumbia scene. Also I wish to add, keep an eye out for the new Cabeza website layout coming really soon.

After doing a bit of travelling Pedrinho returns to Sexxy Saturday Cumbia with his new cumbia bass remix of Chambacu.

This is really fun and a first production from DJ Mapache. It’s a dope spaced out electro-cumbia mashup.

Petardo made a cumbia-dub remix of Bigote’s Mapu as an exclusive for Cassette Blog. It goes really deep and heavy with the bass and delays making for a dope remix.

Adding to his ever-growing graveton catalogue Grita created a classic chicha remix. Featuring heavy percussive delays and slowing down Carinito by Los Hijos Del Sol he makes a somewhat eerie tribute to the legends of Peru.

[email protected] Style is proudly repping the cumbia in New York. He keeps coming out with awesome tracks like this.

Normally one can find Steve Tellco producing moombahton from his studio in France. Here is a new cumbiaton from him rounding out this week’s selection.
